Its probably the coil spring contact just below the steering wheel. Its the electrical connection for your horn ,airbag and speedcontrol switches.

08 Scion xD release series my horn honks by itself when I turn or if you pull on top of steering wheel what is causing this and could it possibly cause my air bag to go off

Inside the steering wheel the button for the horn has springs that can break or become weak when turning the weight of the air bag causes it to make contact and honk. The air bag will not deploy because of this but if you are planning to repair it be sure to disconnect the battery completely and wait ten minutes before attempting to disassemble the steering wheel. Failure to do this can cause the airbag to deploy possibility causing injury to yourself

My horn honks when I turn the steering wheel

You have to remove the steering wheel. The part your looking for is a spring loaded button that is held in place by a plastic clip. The clip has broken. Your best bet is to find one at a salvage yard. Good luck.

I just replaced my turn signal switch in my 82 not 84 rampage. it works fine but when I replace the steering wheel, the horn honks and won't stop.when I look at the switch, I don't know how it...

I don't have a diagram, but if I understand what you're saying, there is a copper ring at the top of the steering column, visible before you install the steering wheel. The copper pin is connected to the horn button. The intent being that when you press the horn button, it completes the ground from the steering wheel through the horn button, through the pin, to the copper ring.
If this is correct, there should be no contact between the steering wheel and the copper ring other than the pin. Check to see if there may have been a spacer (washer, etc) below the steering wheel on the steering shaft that holds it just far enough away from the copper ring so that only the copper pin makes contact.

  1. First check the alternator maybe you need to replace it.
  2. The horn honks when you turn the steering wheel because the wire inside the steering wheel is not fix.
  3. Visit a good mechanic and good electrician to check the alternator and the wirings.

My 99 oldsmobile alero started honking on its own from time to time. sometimes when i turned the wheel and sometimes not. then one day it started honking nonstop for 20 min. i pulled the relay fuse from...

ok its one of 2 things

1- behind the steering wheel between the column, there is a part called the sir coil,it allows the steering to turn with out getting the wires inside tangled,,this SIR COIL could be bad and making contact when it should not and causing the horn to sound,,,,you would have to remove the steering wheel to remove this part and its easy to mess this up,i would rec a repair shop to fix this,

2-inside the steering wheel is the air bad, which also contains the horn buttons inside, sometimes the air bag swells up and gets hard and applies pressure on the horn buttons inside and cause it to soulnd the horn,,if thats the case you will need a new air bag,,,i would also rc a repair shop for this as messing with the air bag system you can set the air bags off just with static electricity,,,,
but one of those should be your issue i think,,,there is really not way to test those parts unless your a dealer,so i cant tell you horn to test it,you need the special load tools and stuff,,,
Take care

1992 Dodge Ram 50: Horn honks all by itself.

Check the horn actuating contact at the centre of the steering wheel. It may be damaged or mis-aligned.
Also check the carbon contact that runs on the slip ring under the steering wheel (associated with steering wheel horn actuate switch) It may be damaged or mis-aligned.

If none of the above are faulty, you should look for a possible intermittent short to ground on the horn actuation control wiring.

Horn wont stop

sounds like the horn contact terminal inside the steering wheel got disconnected and is hitting a metal part of the steering column which triggers the horn. the terminal that got disconnected is probably has positive polarity and the metal part of the steering column has negative polarity. If they come in contact with each other... *honk* *honk*

The steering wheel needs to pulled off, there is a short somewhere in there. Better have it done, cause if it isn't done right, the air bag can deploy.
