Could be several things from rocker arms on the valves to low oil pressure dirty engine internely what i would do is remove belts from engine start and see if noise is still there if its gone then check all pulleys for that same noise kinda tough to say with out hearing in person if the engine is gunked up inside look when takeing off oil cap if you see heavy sluge then do a coulpe three oil changes with an engine oil flush that may help it . also listen near timimng cover area for that noise when belts are off dont run too long watch temp gauge. hope this helps Thunderboltz

What is causing clicking noise under dash?

recently began - hear the "clicking noise" upon startup for about 60 secs - seems to be from the AC/Heater so I turn it off and on. while the noise is "clicking" air flow is greatly impared. Not liking what I read here as sounds like it is going to be yet another expensive repair from what I though was a High Quality Automobile - Mecedes - NOT! just a very expensive automobile to maintain and OFTEN! very disappointed!

1996 Chevy 1500 automatic making clicking noise in first gear

yes could be a bad fly wheel. we have had them on our 1996 van and it is exactly as you describe. you do not hear it revving the engine. you will need to get under the truck . remove inspection cover for trans. look very carefully with a flashlight for reflections from the cracks in the flywheel. we tried to pry ours and it did not move. but we saw it with the flashlight both times. 2 flywheels were made one with ovals and one with circles. the oval ones always go bad. do not buy an aoval replacement
