Question about 1996 Chevrolet K1500

1996 k1500 electrical problems

Truck was running with the parking lights on as I was rewiring trailer brakelamp, right hand side. The Brown Running Light Wire got grounded to the frame. Now, on the truck:front parking, rear parking & dash lights do not work. All fuses are good under the hood and dash both. There is no power making it to fuse block in the dash. Is there a fusible link somewhere before the dash fuse block? Where do I look for it? I am ready to pull my hair out...where can I find the little bugger? PLEASE help me!! I need my vehicle to work, I am dying here!!

If you have check the fuses inside and out,WITH A TEST LIGHT,and have power on both sides of each fuse, then there are a group of fusible links, they are under the hood on and mounted the fire wall on the passenger side.

Check the plug wiring again on the truck. You have a wire crossed , when you hit the lights and it only blows with the trailer, then there is a crossed wire on the truck. What seems to be happening is your sending power to the ground for the trailer. You can check the trailers ground with an ohm meter, then make sure your truck ground matches that pin. You may know this , but green rght turn, yellow is left turn, brown is parking lights, black is brake lights, and white is ground.

Hi, I'm not clear about what you said. Please tell me the year and model of the truck and what color wires you have on the trailer. A normal 4-wire trailer has brown for tail, green for left and yellow for right. White is ground.

When i hook my trailor's lights to my 2003 yukon xl, park lights doesnt work, but all other lights work

You mean the truck parking lights dont work, or the trailer running lights dont work? Does the trailer just have tail lights or does it have front and rear side markers? I think you mean the trailer lights. Check for power at the plug,(Brown Wire) if there is power, then you could have wiring problems, but a better description of what works and what doesnt work needs defining.

2001 f 150 extended cab. trailer lights were working. had to replace a trailer light uhit because it was broken. now lights do not work properly. running lights work. turn signal only works if running...

The description of the problem is very confusing. If the trailer is disconnected, do all of the functions work OK? If so the problem is with the trailer wires. If all worked before you replaced the light, then thats where the problem lies. The turn signal/brake lights are a seperate circuit than the running lights. The brown should be hot with running lights, and the yellow and green are the turn/brake signals. The trailer lights should be grounded to the trailer frame, and the frame connected to the white wire, Make sure the white wire is connected to the plug on the truck side and connected to the frame of the truck. The turn signal that works with only the running lights on doesnt make sense, and grounds are the most common item. Some Ford trucks have seperate fuses for right and left. There a small fuse box under the hood, near the brake booster.

Had a problem with a right, amber side marker on right side

Usually one of the holes in the marker light where screw goes in, has metal contact where screw meets light, but if not, and they are not push in wire connection type from behind, then just run your white wire up through hole in housing, and bare the end & tighten it up under screw holding light to body. White should be ground, brown should be power.

Trailer light problem

Check it with a test light. White-ground, Yellow-left turn, Green-right turn, Brown-tailights. Check it on the truck first. There are seperate fuses for just the trailer wiring in the fuse box under the hood. The Blue and Red wires are for Trailer brakes, don't worry about those.
