Not all of us are like that,
your service engine soon light is totally different then the oil life reminder light, you need to have the codes read to know what is going on,if you go to Autozone they will check codes for free, but none are mechanics, they do this service free hoping to sell backyard mechanics sensors before checking the car out.so get the code numbers and thank them and drive away.let us know what the code numbers are .

The service light needs to be cleared with a scan tool or code reader. They should have done that for you. One can be borrowed from some auto parts stores like the AutoZone. You can find them for $30, or fancy ones for $200+.
They are very simple to use. Just plug them in to the cars computer, under the dash board and steering wheel. The rest is following the easy instructions it gives you.
I bought my own, and got a nice one from Harbor Frieght for $120. It is a great investment. Even if you don't work on your own car, this will tell you what is wrong with it when a light comes on. Mine also checks to see if it is ready for SMOG, and what sensor is not working correctly.
They take advantage of all of us. I am here to help in my small way to put an end to it.
Good Luck!

2000 grand am gt. Check engine light is off but the Service engine soon light is on. There are no error codes. I have already changed the oil and reset the oil light.

Service engine soon ? Do you mean SERVICE VEHICLE SOON Indicator
The amber SERVICE VEHICLE SOON indicator is an alert to the driver whenever there are specific current codes stored in the BCM or in the event of a loss of Class 2 serial data.

If your vehicle has a check engine light ,it doesn't have service engine soon .One or the other .

How to reset change oil soon light

Oil Life Monitor Resetting (KD, KE)
Description
The engine oil life monitor will indicate when to change the engine oil and the engine oil filter - usually between 5 000 km (3,000 miles) and 12 500 km (7,500 miles) since the last oil change. Under severe conditions, the CHANGE OIL message may be displayed before 5 000 km (3,000 miles). The vehicle must not be driven more than 12 500 km (7,500 miles) or 12 months without an oil change.
The engine oil life monitor will not detect dust in the oil. If the vehicle is driven in a dusty area, be sure to change the oil every 5 000 km (3,000 miles) or sooner if the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message is displayed.
Reset the oil life monitor when the oil has been changed.
Resetting Procedure
Press the INFORMATION SKIP button on the DIC control panel in order to display the OIL LIFE LEFT message.
Press and hold the RESET NO button until the display shows 100% ENGINE OIL LIFE.

The service engine soon light will not go out and oil has just been changed.

The service engine soon light and change oil indicator are 2 different things. The change oil indicator in the information center is reset by pushing the gas peddle all the way to the floor and letting it up all the way with the key in the run position with the engine off.
The service engine soon is a tell tail light letting you know that there is a problem with the way the engine is running. It has nothing to do with preventive maintenance.

Hello today i leaded out my Chevy Suburban truck to my sister she returned to me with the Service Engine Soon light on ?? Im sure she ran the truck up hill ? What might the problem be it was perfect this...

She didn't do anything wrong at all. Your truck is just fine and doing what it was designed to do. That's a normal indicator that comes on to remind you to get the oil changed. It's supposed to get reset every time the oil gets changed and frequently, Quickie Lube and other instant oil change shops will overlook resetting it. Look in your owners manual under "Resetting the Service Engine indicator light" and you can reset it yourself. Or just get the oil changed and tell them to make sure and reset it.

How do I reset the change oil light after changing the oil. It did not go out.

Try this and if it does not work let me know.

1. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position without starting the engine.
2. Fully press and release the accelerator pedal three times within five seconds.
3. If the CHANGE OIL SOON indicator flashes two times, or the display reads "OIL LIFE INDEX RESETTING 100%" then the system is resetting.
4. Turn the ignition key to "OFF", and then start the vehicle.
5. If the CHANGE OIL SOON indicator comes on and stays on, or CHANGE OIL SOON is displayed then the system did not reset and repeat the procedure.

1. To reset the OIL LIFE indictor if equipped with a Trip Computer, press the TRIP MODE button until the light appears next to OIL LIFE.
2. Press and hold the trip RESET button until the oil life percentage changes to 99%.

My dash lights come on at all different times, saying change oil soon, when i change it every 3000mi..and somtimes the service engine soon light comes on..then goes off, then comes on,what do i do

These looks like normal service indicators, I would have thought they would be reset via the diagnostics terminals by the servicing engineer.

Once of course, when the indicated unit had been serviced. I think you may have to go to a garage and get them reset but take care that whatever is indicated gets the attention it needs.

Just had oil change done on my 2000 alero now my service engine soon light is on.I want to know what this means

It simply means that the service indicator was not reset when the oil was changed. If the oil was changed professionally, then resetting the service indicator is usually part of the job.

It's not just a reminder to change the oil, it's also there to remind you to check/adjust/lubricate/replace other items such as the air filter, oil filter, spark plugs, fuel filter, dampers (UK=shock absorbers) etc.

The service indicator is simply a dumb counter keyed to mileage and time elapsed and cannot sense when you have completed a service. Resetting the indicator requires a special tool so you'll need to take your car to a suitably equipped garage.

1999 Pontiac Grand Prix lights are staying on

what is the procedure you are using can you explain it to me?
Resetting Procedure

To reset the CHANGE OIL SOON indicator if equipped with the Driver Information Center (DIC).

  1. Turn the ignition to ON without starting the engine.
  2. Fully press and release the accelerator pedal three times within five seconds.
    • If the CHANGE OIL SOON indicator flashes two times, the system is resetting. Turn the ignition key to OFF then start the vehicle.
    • If the CHANGE OIL SOON indicator comes on and stays on, repeat the procedure.
To reset the OIL LIFE indicator if equipped with a Trip Computer.

  1. Press the trip MODE button until the light appears next to OIL LIFE.
  2. Press and hold the trip RESET button until the oil life percentage changes to 100%.
Hope this helps Ill look into the ABS lights but I do believe that you will need a scan tool to retreive a code to be able to diagnose the reason for the lights
