The ABS and Brake warning lights are both lit. The owners manual says take it to the dealer immediately but does not say what is wrong. Do you know?

Most likely the ABS computer failed. You can still drive the car but the skid control will not work. It will be just like an older car without antilock brakes.

modulemaster.com can rebuild these so go to the site and put in your vehicle and you will get a price and instructions on how to ship it. You can still drive the truck if you opt to go this route.

Best bet is to have it diagnosed and if they recommend a computer then you can decide if you will save by doing it yourself.

My car has been running great. This morning I started it up and a light on dash came on. I checked owners manual and it says to take it to dealer immediately.

It is possible that the timing belt is due to be replaced (you have not stated what your vehicle is). Once the vehicle has done a certain amount of miles/kilometres a warning light comes on to alert the driver. If this is the case i would highly recommend that you get it done as a timing belt failure will do significant damage to your engine.

Hi, I have a toyota rav4 2007, now & then I get the ABS light that stays on the dash, I had a look in the owner's manual , which says "take vehicle to toyota dealer. if brake system warning light...

Hello. Welcome to FixYa. Please allow us to assist you.

We are sorry that you are experiencing frustration with your RAV/4, with your ABS light issue.

In reality, there is no "main" cause for the ABS light to illuminate. In fact, there are about 30-40 possibilities.

A few examples: The ABS system has a RPM counter mounted to each hub, at all 4 wheels. You could have a bad RPM sensor at any wheel. The ABS system has a device on the axles that the RPM counter 'looks at', it could be defective, or cracked. The brake fluid could be low. The Yaw sensor in the steering column could be out of calibration...and several other possibilities.

What you can check:
The level of the brake fluid in the master cylinder.

What we suggest you do:
Short of a visit to a dealership's service department, an AutoZone or a Kragen's will scan your vehicle with their scan tool for free, or much cheaper than the dealer would charge you. Without the DTC code, we are unable to give you any further info, as the DTC code indicates exactly where we need to give you specific advice. Indiscriminate replacement of ABS RPM sensors, the counter gears, the yaw sensor, and various other sensors, would all be exercises in futility, and obviously much more expensive than paying for the scan to obtain the DTC code.

Please get the car scanned. It does not matter where, or by whom, but it does matter that you get the DTC code so that we do not lead you down the wrong path.

We are here to help you, to save you money, and to eliminate you ABS issue.
However, the best way to get you sorted out is to start with the DTC code.

HAVE A 2006 MITSUBISHI ENDEAVOR I GOT A LIGHT THAT LOOKS LIKE A HORSE SHOE WITH AN EXCLAMATION POINT. CAN YOU PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT THAT IS I DID NOT GET AN OWNERS MANUAL WITH THE CAR.

This is not a good warning light as it relates to your Braking system !!!

Brake system warning light

brake_fluid_light_72.jpg
This light will remain illuminated when the handbrake is engaged. Illumination after releasing the handbrake may indicate low brake fluid level (MUST CHECK THIS IMMEDIATELY AND RECTIFY).

Hope the information is useful ... be extremely careful and attend to this warning immediately if it is still on with your handbrake off and brake fluid top up!

! with circle on dashboard

this means there is a problem in the brake system of the car and u should seek service from a dealer or qualified brake shop. here is a copied section of your owners manual about the light.

Brake system warning
Momentarily illuminates when the
ignition is turned to the RUN
position to ensure the circuit is
functional. Also illuminates if the
parking brake is engaged. If the
brake warning lamp does not illuminate at these times, or remains on
after releasing the parking brake, seek service immediately.
One of the following conditions may exist:
² low brake fluid level in the reservoir.
² Brake force distribution system failure. The ABS light will also
illuminate if this condition is present.

Abs light on and brake light blinks

This is indicating a fualt with the abs and braking system. Volkswagon is very proprietary and a trip to the dealer may be nesssary. If you look in your owners manual it will tell you what all of the warning lights on your dashboard mean. I would also check your battery, if your battery is not putting out optimal voltage for this car then it will play all sorts of havoc with your warning system by throwing false warning and such. My 07 passat did the same thing, I would get in the car and every warning light on the dash would light up like a christmas tree and then go off a little while later. I replaced the battery and I never had a problem again.

Mk1 A4 ABS warning light

I have a 2000 Audi A4 and the break wear sensor warning light come on for me too. It does not flash and is orange in color. I have asked the Audi dealer twice about it and they told me it's because the previous owner put aftermarket break pads on it, thus messing up the sensors. I don't know about the ABS warning and other than that I wish you luck on it.

The ABS system is INOPERATIVE as long as the warning light remains on. Recommend to have an ABS system diagnosis at local repair shop. Recommend to have repairs done asap as this is a safety issue. The brakes will function but the antilock feature will not.
