Replaced fuel pump but still revs up the engine and shuts off?

There is gas, the starter is fine, the battery is good. It doesn't matter what temperature the engine is or how long between starts but if I rev up the engine while cranking it starts okay. Rarely I have to rev at stops or the idle drops too low and stalls. If I punch the gas very quickly it revs and drops quickly and then stalls. Starting has a success rate of about 50% without revving. If it stalls, I must rev the engine to start.

How do you bleed a diesel pump jeep Cherokee turbo diesel 3.1 5 cylinder 2001

we dont have this engine here, USA.
but i have the WG jeep book,
starting page 12 , chapter 14

FUEL INJECTION PUMP BLEEDING
(1) If the fuel injection pump has been replaced,
air should be bled at the overflow valve before
attempting to start engine.
(a) Loosen the overflow valve (Fig. 18) at the
rear of the injection pump.
(b) Place a towel below the valve.
WARNING: WHEN CRANKING THE ENGINE TO
BLEED AIR FROM THE INJECTION PUMP, THE
ENGINE MAY START. PLACE THE TRANSMISSION
IN NEUTRAL OR PARK AND SET PARKING BRAKE
BEFORE ENGAGING THE STARTER MOTOR.
CAUTION: Do not engage the starter motor for
more than 30 seconds at a time. Allow 2 minutes
between cranking intervals.
(2) Crank the engine for 30 seconds at a time to
allow air trapped in the injection pump to vent out
the fuel injector drain tubes. Continue this procedure
until the engine starts. Observe the previous WARNING
and CAUTION.
(3) Tighten overflow valve.
HIGH-PRESSURE FUEL LINE BLEEDING
WARNING: THE INJECTION PUMP SUPPLIES HIGH-
-PRESSURE FUEL OF APPROXIMATELY 45,000 KPA
(6,526 PSI) TO EACH INDIVIDUAL INJECTOR
THROUGH THE HIGH-PRESSURE LINES. FUEL
UNDER THIS AMOUNT OF PRESSURE CAN PENETRATE
THE SKIN AND CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY.
WEAR SAFETY GOGGLES AND ADEQUATE PROTECTIVE
CLOTHING AND AVOID CONTACT WITH
FUEL SPRAY WHEN BLEEDING HIGH-PRESSURE
FUEL LINES.
WARNING: DO NOT BLEED AIR FROM THE FUEL
SYSTEM OF A HOT ENGINE. DO NOT ALLOW FUEL
TO SPRAY ONTO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD WHEN
BLEEDING AIR FROM THE FUEL SYSTEM.
Bleed air from one injector at time.
(1) Loosen the high-pressure fuel line fitting at
the injector (Fig. 19).
(2) Crank the engine until all air has been bled
from the line. Do not operate the starter motor
for longer than 30 seconds. Wait 2 minutes
between cranking intervals.
(3) Start the engine and bleed one injector at a
time until the engine runs smoothly.

end quote.
pump timing is on next page
or tank filter line priming before. above.

1997 acura cl 2.2 revs up to 1500 rpm and down to 1000 rpm just several seconds after start

Cars are design to run at a higher idle at start up to warm them up quick. There is a sensor that reads water temperature and tells your car's computer how fast to idle. Your RPMs seem slightly high but not out of the norm. Does idle ever drop to around 600/800 after about a minute? If not, your engine temperature sensor maybe defective.

I have a 04 mustang 3.9 v6 and every time I start it, its rev a little high and makes a loud ticking noise but after a few seconds it idols down and the ticking goes away why is that?

Fords do rev high when first started but a breather filter may be dirty, the ticking is probably the valves that haven't gotten oil pressure to them.If it has high miles you may want to use a full synthetic with your next oil change so the valves will be safer from start up wear.I personally use Slik 50 and Quaker State Synthetic Blend...

I can smell that my jeep is not burning all the fuel it is consuming and my fuel milage is down. There are no engine codes and it seems to have a decent amount of power. I have been running some fuel...

First thing I'd do is to remove the spark plugs and see how they look. Black plugs will confirm that something is causing it to run rich. I'd also look at the exhaust and see if there is any black smoke.
also check the running temperature of the engine (should run at near 210 degrees (f))...too cold can cause the computer to richen up the fuel mixture. If you smell raw fuel, take a good look at the fuel lines etc to make sure you have no leaks. Your throttle position sensor and map sensor have a large influence on fuel consumption as do the O2 sensors. In fact, all the engine sensors work together as the computer takes in all that information in order to decide where to put engine timing and fuel pulse length and frequency. It is possible to have one or more sensors just out of range enough to alter the fuel mix without setting a code. To find a problem like that you'd need to do individual component tests as outlined in chilton or haynes manuals, writing down your test results and comparing those to expected values also listed in the same publications. I'd also check all vacuum lines and for leaks at the intake manifold a small leak can change what the sensors see.
Tests take time and patience. They are necessary though.

Engine dies / cuts out when cold

Check the coolant temperature sensor. It is situated in the inlet manifold at the back of the engine bay. This basically acts like an automatic choke and tells the ECU to increase fuel mixture when the engine is cold.  I replaced many many of these to Renaults, Peugeots and Citroens for this exact fault.

You said the starter works rt I would suggest pulling your alternator and get it checked at autozone. Take a look at your battery as well a bad alternator will allow the battery to drain
