Check the fuel pressure or the type of gasoline you are using try using 95 octane. Check also for vacuum leaks on the intake manifold, air intake shld be metered by the air mass flow sensor in order for the PCM to compute for right amount of gasoline.

Forum Code

Possible causes

- Faulty Oxygen Sensor

- Vacuum leak affecting bank 1 only

- Fuel injector problem bank 1

- Check for cylinder misfire on bank 1

- Engine mechanical condition

Tech notes

Though the Oxygen (O2) sensor, the Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected a lean system, which means that there is either not enough fuel or and excessive amount of air in the system. Start by checking for vacuum leaks.

When is the code detected?

The Engine Control Module (ECM) detected bank 1 oxygen (O2) at its lean limit

Possible symptoms

- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

P1131 Ford Description

A Heated Exhaust Oxygen (HO2S) sensor indicating rich at the end of a test is trying to correct for an over-lean condition. The test fails when the fuel control system no longer detects switching for a calibrated amount of time.

P0171 ; Fuel Trim System Lean (Bank 1)
P0174; Fuel Trim too Lean (Bank 2)
fuel trim is system to modify injector pulse if system go lean it will go rich when the system is too much lean and is max.rich it code
look for 02 sensor bank 1 and 2 data
hope it helps

1996 Honda Accord Running lean after changing tune up and new oxygen sensors.

My first thought was fuel pressure. Low fuel pressure would cause the engine to go lean but not set a code for the actual problem.
Is it possible the fuel filter is clogged ? Have you checked fuel pressure?

I have a 97 wrangler 2.5. Check engine light is on, running lean, loss of power and high fuel consumption. I have replaced the o2 sensors, reset check engine code. light stays off and engine runs great for...

Something odd about what you posted. An engine that is running lean shouldn't be using a lot of fuel. Lean is when there isn't enough fuel going into the engine. Two other sensors that regulate fuel flow are the map sensor and throttle position sensor. Temp sensor generally would cause a rich condition but I'd test that too. Be sure to check for vacuum leaks at the manifold and lines as well as fittings... A vacuum leak will give the O2 sensor a lean reading...seeing that, the computer will try to compensate by adding fuel. Clearing codes can change the way it's running but as soon as the computer runs through it's internal diagnostics it will turn the light back on if there is a problem.

Rough idle vibrates and po171 code service engine soon. jamesrowland9@aol.com

Hi, a Ford P0171 is a LEAN code for cylinder bank 1, and P0174 is a LEAN code for cylinder bank 2. These codes commonly occur on many Ford vehicles, and are set when the powertrain control module (PCM) sees the air/fuel mixture is running too lean (too much air, not enough fuel).
When the Check Engine Light comes on, either one of these codes, or both, may be found when a code reader or scan tool is plugged into the vehicle diagnostic connector. IF the vehicle is driven long enough, typically both codes will be set.
A P0171 lean code for bank 1 is the cylinder bank on the RIGHT (passenger) side of the engine on Ford vehicles with a V6 or V8 engine and rear-wheel drive.

A lean fuel condition may exist if the engine is sucking in too much air and/or the fuel system is not delivering enough fuel. If bad enough, a lean fuel condition may cause lean misfire, a rough idle, hesitation or stumble when accelerating, and/or poor engine performance.
Unmetered air can enter the engine through a vacuum leak, a dirty airflow sensor that is not reading airflow accurately, an EGR valve is not closing and is leaking exhaust into the intake manifold, an EGR valve that is allowing too much flow (because the EGR differential pressure sensor that monitors EGR flow is faulty and is under-reporting EGR flow).
If the problem is not enough fuel, the underling cause may be a weak fuel pump, restricted fuel filter, leaky fuel pressure regulator or dirty fuel injectors.

Hyundai Elantra 2000, engine light code 1128

Code 1128 on a Hyundai is a lean mixture fault
http://www.freeautomechanic.com/diagnostictroblecodes11.html

"lean" means the engine is not getting enough fuel. Or the sensor is indicating a lean mixture.
Causes include...
oxygen sensor or wiring bad- located in the exhaust pipe
plugged fuel filter- located in the fuel line, specific location varies by car
MAF sensor or wiring bad (Mass Air Flow).- located in the air intake
low fuel pressure due to failing fuel pump or failing pressure regulator.
leaks in the intake manifold
leaking or disconnected vacuum lines

Check engine light keeps coming on. Lean fuel

A lean code can be caused by several different things. The most common, if you are getting a lean code on BOTH banks, is a dirty Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF) Cleaning the MAF usually fixes it.

If not, it could be caused by anything from a crack in a vacuum line to a bad fuel pump. (Anything that could make the engine run lean.)

Check Engine light is on my 1997 F150 with a small V-8. The tester returns codes P0171, P0172, P0174 and P0175. What does all this mean?

those codes are for lean engine condition look for vac leaks at the back of engine to the pcv valve could hear hissing noise with engine running also check egr valve to be stuck open also when was last fuel filter changed? hope this helps .
