P0304 Code - Cylinder #4 Misfire Technical Description Cylinder #4 Misfire Detected
What does that mean? A P0304 code means that the the car's computer has detected that one of the engine's cylinders is not firing properly. In this case it's cylinder #4.
FB.init("dd7d9e9681341cde77587bc6a2029f6f"); OBD-Codes.com on Facebooki have 97 cavalier with 148,000 miles 2.4l - copyscape.gif SymptomsSymptoms may include:

  • the engine may be harder to start
  • the engine may stumble / stumble, and/or hesitate
  • other symptoms may also be present
Causes A code P0304 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • Faulty spark plug or wire
  • Faulty coil (pack)
  • Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
  • Faulty fuel injector
  • Burned exhaust valve
  • Faulty catalytic converter(s)
  • Running out of fuel
  • Poor compression
  • Defective computer
Possible Solutions If there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.
If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors

1997 honda civc 4 trouble codes po301,po302'po303'po304

All cyls misfiring. 97 honda. How many miles?Sounds like plug wires or a wet distributor cap. Yet if it is a Vtec The misfires could be occurring after the cams engage. Possible VTEC solenoid issue.

Po304

PO304--- Possible Bad Ignition Coil on cylinder #4

PO136-- O2 Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2)

Could be sensor or wiring or misfire or other items

You should have changed the front or upstream O2 sensors
on all your vehicles at 100,000 miles

The coil code may or may not be correct
You have to diagnose cylinder misfires

I would suggest a repair shop & they have to use a scan tool
in Mode #06 on a road trip of at least 20 miles, to check for
cylinder misfire counts or use an oscilloscope on a road test

If replacing the coil on #4 resolves the issue, it was just luck,
& luck only goes so far

I had a coil in June that no professional test equip found
I had to walk a new one one cyl at a time

2006 jeep liberty code po304

P0304 indicates misfire in the cylinders..
A misfire can be triggered by several situations. inadequate fuel, ignition misfire, insufficient air flow, too much fuel, incomplete compression... If you look at freeze frame data with a scanner you can see what the conditions were when the code was set, this will really help to pinpoint the problem.

Failed smog check

po304 is just that #4 cyl has a problem could be a bad spark plug or a bad plug wire or bolth
if it hasnt had an ign tuneup its time.
the po138 is just telling you one of the cylinders isnt burning all the fuel put into that cyl.
so its just cause and effect.
if ya need any more info let me know
later paul

did it fail high hc? you could change 4and 6 coils around and see if you get a p0306 that means the coil pack is bad. common on this type.
