Replacing a blend door actuator is a tedious job. You have to remove the steering column taking xtra careful for the wirings. Complete removal of the dashboard, remove the instr. cluster, radio , glove box.Remove the console box, discharge the freon ,disconnect the heater hoses, ac hoses. After removing the dash you can gain access of the ac/heater phlenum. Remove the blend door actutor.bolts and screws are sometimes in a concealed location so xtra patience is needed.

My 2002 ford explorer the temp. Control knob when you change it it makes a loud clicking sound and it will no longer blow cold air only hot.

there is an actuator that controlls a blend door that is called a blend door actuator. This "door" is inside the evaporator case and it opens and closes to divert air over either the evaporator (for air conditioning) or the heater core (for heat) and can be somewhere in between for warm air. your temp knob sends an electric signal to this actuator to controll that door. the actuator has plastic gears inside of it that can become stripped of its teeth causing a "tapping" sound. These trucks comonly have this problem. The actuator is screwed on to the evaporator case and the blend door actuator is a mounted on top either behind the radio or the glove box. It;s about the size of a deck of cards

When i turn the heat on it makes a clicking sound, and it blows out cold air, but when i turn cold temp on the clicking sound stops, until heat temp is turned back on. please tell me how to fix this...

Your ac blend door is broken or the actuator that opens and closes the door is broken. The ac blend door moves up and down to direct air flow through the heater core(for heating) or evaporator core(for cooling).

When the door mechanism breaks, the blend door falls down and you will only have ac but no heating.

You can buy a ac blend door kit for your explorer, they cost about $120 on ebay or other places.
search for Explorer ac blend door kit.

The duct is under the the dash on the drivers side. And you will have to cut open the duct to install the replacement door.

Heres a link to a tutorial of how to do the job.

2002 ford explorer....Just changed the blower motor. Everything worked fine for a few days and now the air will only come out of the defrost and floor vent areas. When I turn the vent selector switch...

Check under dash in duct system for any vacuum hoses blown off then check under the hood on the passenger side of engine compartent. If all hoses are connected then you will have to check the heater blend door actuator and the heater blend door lever for proper operation.

to access the blend door you have to remove the dash. im not going to lie, its a pain to do especially if you have never done it before. if you use a haynes manual you should be able to do it but it can take a while.

I took my 2002 ford explorer for a detail yesterday. It came back with the ac not coming out of the main vents. It works on defrost but not in the front four vents. Got any ideas

Your blend door is not operating properly. The blend door directs the air where it is supposed to go based on the settings you tell it, vent, defrost, floor, etc.

Heating...burrrrrrrrr

The clicking is the air temperature blend door motor, most likely the motor will have to be replaced the blend door checked to make sure it moves freely, this repair requires the removal of the dash assembly.
