Question about 2004 Dodge Ram 2500

1 Answer

I have an '04 Dodge 2500 w/ diesel engine 98,000 miles. On inclines the power decreases, if I shift into 3rd gear it does not increse in speed only rpm. the dealer has replaced the lift pump installing one in the tank, this did not help. Dealer also replaced the actuator valve on the injector pump, this did not help. Transmission fluid is in the proper range. The dealer doesn't seem to know what to do next. Any suggestions?

Oh yes i had one of these in the shop last month and i chased it just like they are! lol... what it came down to was a torque converter and a transmission rebuild. i suspected a power add like banks but was not in the truck when i was working on it so i could not confirm it but. these units tend to tear at the tranny's.

but now that you have the same exact problem it may just be a flaw they have. i think the tranny shop i subed it out to also did the govener soleniods too.

hope this help and good luck. i know you didn't say it and i assume they checked it but is the turbo working properly? another issue i have seen but on the truck i just state about it had no issue's so it can go either way.

97 Chevy Tahoe code Po 758

This is from Repair Pal...just Google your code (P0758) to find other helpful suggestions

OBD-II Code P0758 is defined as a Shift Solenoid B Electrical The purpose of the automatic transmission is to match the engine's optimum power and torque characteristics to the driver's desired rate of acceleration and speed by auto-selecting different gear ratios or 'speeds' to power the wheels. Shift solenoid B enables the transmission to shift from 2nd gear to 3rd gear. It does this by re-directing the flow of the transmission fluid which changes the position of the shift valves in the valve body.
When the code P0758 is set in the Powertrain Computer, it means that the Powertrain Computer or PCM is not seeing the specified rpm change that occurs during a shift from 2nd gear to 3rd gear. It's also not seeing the correct increase in road speed from the vehicle speed sensor.

P0758 Symptoms
  • Check Engine Light will illuminate
  • Vehicle will not shift from 2nd gear to 3rd gear properly
  • Decrease in fuel economy
  • In unusual cases, there are no adverse conditions noticed by the driver
  • In some cases, there may be performance problems and possibly misfire-like symptoms
Common Problems That Trigger the P0758 Code
  • Defective Shift Solenoid
  • Defective Shift Solenoid wiring or connector
  • Defective Valve Body
  • Dirty transmission fluid that restricts the hydraulic passages

2001 dodge 2500 5.9l 4 speed automatic shift problems

For car not changing gears it can be shifter assembly issue, or it can also be transmission issue. Get the shifter assembly inspected with ignition OFF.

For more troubleshooting, I suggest you to get the Following help link checked, its complete step by step procedure to inspect gear shift issues: -----

2002 dodge ram 2500 diesel truck shifts in and out of gear around 40 to 50 miles per hour

When your truck is shifting like you mentioned you need to check the battery cables. Better yet just replace the cables. Even a small amount of corrosion can cause a break down in the flow of current to the trans computer and cause erratic shifting. New cables should fix you right up. If this does not take care you need to start looking into "noise" from the alternator wire or other electrical interferrence. Another possible solution is to install a Hapi Box which clears interferrence in the wire from the TPS to the trans computer. It worked on my '02 until the cables corroded. I stripped back about 6" and found a mess in there. Good luck. (oh, Dodge will seel you a new trans to fix this problem. Be ware.)

Transmission- 2001 Dodge ram 2500 diesel 4X4

I have a 2002 Dodge Ram that doesn't like to shift into 2nd when flooring it from a Stop. Imagine if you were to floor the gas in neutral, the engine REDLINEs and the engine governor kicks in to keep the RPM from blowing the engine......while stuck in first Gear. If i let off the gas, it goes into 2nd fine. I have replaced the Speed Sensor on the transmission ($18) and it seemed to fix it for one day. After 200 miles, its doing it again. ANybody have legitimate answers in here? Its only got 60K miles..wtf?
