Question about 2004 Volkswagen Beetle

2 Answers

What is the small black plastic oil container with the green cap immediately to the left of the battery on a 2004 VW beetle? I was cleaning my engine and accidentally broke off the barbed fitting and hose which attaches to the front of this container (probably because it is so cold right now) I am obviously going to need a new one. Thanks.

That is the power steering fluid reservoir. Be sure to replace any fluid lost with the correct type.

Volkswagen uses a specific type of fluid. Using the wrong one will result in damage to the power steering pump and/or rack and pinion.

Consult your owners manual or the Volks dealer to be sure you are getting the right fluid.

Good luck.

My 2001 new beetle 1.8 turbo started ticking and won't pull good... Did I blow my motor ?

You need to stop driving the car asap before the engine seizes. Check the oil cap and see inside if it looks all black and tarry then you have a sludged up engine. The Sludge is burnt on oil that is blocking the oil pump screen.
Sounds pretty bad but there is good news in that there is a recall for that engine for sludging. But VW will only honor it if you have proof of most your oil changes. (issue is these engines need synthetic oil and vw failed to mention this to their customers.)

If you don't have this info then you will need to clean the sludge out your self. I would first drop the oil pan and clean the pan, screen and most likely replace the oil pump. (its only bolted on). This will save your engine from failure but you are still not done. After you are done replacing the parts you need to add 1/2 quart of auto transmission fluid to your oil change. the detergents in the atf will help remove the rest of the sludge that has built up inside the engine. atf is oil so continue adding this to the oil change until you don't see any more black tar on the oil cap.

Good luck

Phil.

ps I've been down this road with a wolfsburgh Jetta 1.8t so I know the pain of sludge too well.

2004 VW Bug leaking antifreeze. small puddles found every morning or after 8hr day under front passenger side of engine. Pressure tested and sealant added, no leak found by mechanic. Still leaking and...

the VW beetle has a plastic radiator, where the cap is if you look to the front of that it does a 90, it is cracked there. Here is the fun part, with a throx wrench ( I think it was a T-30) take apart the fenders and front bumper. At the auto parts store there is a plastic tank repair kit, the kit includes resign, fiber glass cloth, and a stick. You will need to rough up the crack as it is right where it angles and lay on the cloth and resign. Let it dry and it will not leak from there again. Good Luck Tim

Where is the oil filter 2007 santa fe v6 not under plastic cover

Hello,

It is located on the top of you engine compartment, under the hood, to the right (Driver Side) of the engine and left of your battery. You need to take off the plastic engine cover (two bolts and four screw nuts) to expose it. It is cylinder in shape with a black plastic cap, which screws off to show the oil filter. The filter is different than your normal one, it doesn't have a outside metal cover to it. It looks like a air filter but round. Also in the box with your new oil filter comes two "O" rings, one small and one big. The big one replaces the "O" ring at the top of the screw part of your black cap and the small one goes on the bottom of the same cap.

Take care.

The oil filter is in a filter housing located on the top of the engine. Take the engine cover off. The 3, 10mm nuts are located under the circular pop-off covers that attach the plastic engine cover. You should see the oil filter housing to the right of the engine valve cover. The oil filter housing is a black, plastic cylinder with a cover that unscrews. The filter is inside of this. Make sure you drain the oil before unscrewing the cover to the filter housing.
