Change the crank sensor. If you don't know where it is buy a book at a parts store on a 1997 jeep grand cherokee cost about 20 bucks

You may have a Bad Coil I had to replace mine after 7yrs.. Get a high performance Coil the cost a little more but in the long run they are better.. Also have you ever replace the Plug wire set it maybe a bad coil to distributer wire.. as well..
