go inside the van, go under the dash and cut the sheath back on the hood release cable inner core twisted wire rope that pulls the latch to releases the hood, then with a good pair of vise grips pull that inner wire while while someone pushes down on the hood over the latch area, spraying WD 40 onto the hood latch will help, soak it good for about 15 minutes and then try doing the above, this is how i have always got the hoods open on cars that came in for a broken cable.

How do you open the bonnet of a Toyota corolla verso when the bonnet release is broken

If the handle is broken but the cable is ok use a pair of pliers, otherwise the front plastic grill may need to be forced to give you access to the main catch.

How do I open the hood on a 1992 240 Volvo

Normally, you pull the lever that is beneath the driver side lower corner of the dash, right next to the fuse panel.
Since you are asking, I presume that the lever or the cable is broken. If it is broken at the lever, you can grip the end of the cable with vice grip pliers and pull on it. If it is broken up under the hood, you will have to reach through the grill and twist the plastic release buttons a quarter turn so you can push them up out and remove the grill, and then try to release the latch from there. This will not be easy, but many have done it. Next time, lube the latch and the cable every few years.

1998 Escort: 1997 escort can't open hood broken hood release...

first, try smacking the hood at one of the front corners while someone else pulls the release handle. or even after you've pulled on it. if that works, once open, adjust and lubricate the hood latch assembly. if it still won't open, and it's the cable and not the latch you'll have to replace it anyway, so instead of removing the grill, cut the cable behind the pull lever under the dash where you can reach it. then skin the outer cable insulation away from the actual steel cable exposing an inch or two of it. then holding the insulation and plastic housing with pliers, grab the steel cable itself with pliers and pull it to open the hood. then replace the cable. the further you can reach up under the panel the better your chances of getting past the broken part of the cable and avoid removing the grill. you might also be able to gain access from up under the car if you're lucky.

Hood release broken

hi,
you might want to contact a local ford dealer mechanic and ask them if they know a trick before you try and locate that busted cable. Your going to have to do some looking/studying through the grille or under the front of the car, If the car has to come up off the ground I suggest using car ramps, theyre safer than jacking the car up and blocking it If you have to jack the car up blocking the rear wheels is a must and setting the parking brake, while the vehicle is in the air I strongly suggest using a secondary failsafe such as blocks of wood or large pieces of firewood to make absolutely sure the car does not move. Now looking up under the front fascia of the car you will probably encounter a large piece of plastic, it has to come off so you can see above it and its usually held in place by plastic screws or snaps, they either just unscrew or pop out, now with the plastic out of the way you have to study where the black plastic aircraft cable goes into the hood latch( busted latch release cable) and bypass it by either pulling the inner cable inside with needle nose pliers where it broke off, or pulling the metal area where the latch release cable was attatched with needle nose pliers. untill you get a replacement you can temporarily use some bailing wire to hook where the busted cable went and bring it through the grille with a loop.

good luck
