The fib is probably worn out . You test it at most parts store's to see if it works all the time, if that is the problem you can more than likely get one on eBay for a good price. And you need to program it to your car for that go to YouTube.
First, of all... make sure all of the remotes have fresh batteries. Have them all together with you.
1) Sit in truck, and use the door armrest door lock button to lock and then release (open) the lock.
2) With Foot on brake, insert key into ignition...
(and as quickly as you can)...
3) Turn the key from off to on (do not start) about eight times...
4) When you hear the door locks begin to operate, stop turning the key...
5) go to Any and All of your remotes, and push the lock or unlock button once on each remote.
6) Then turn the ignition off and remove the key.
7) Test your keyless remote, they should work...
If not, in some cases, you have to also have the seatbelt clicked into the on position before starting the key sequence.
The key should work even if there is no battery in vehicle. Have you tried both doors (or all doors with locks) Do you live where the temp is below freezing - could be frozen shut or locks frozen?
Well, I have an 01 V6 Mustang as well. I am having the same problem. It is an intermittant problem with the PATS system. What i normally do is to disconnect the battery and let it sit. Sometimes it takes a few hours, sometimes overnight. I am actually on my way to have a remote start unit installed. The remote start unit will include a PATS bypass module. I will return to let you know how it works.....
