the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

use a modern scan tool post 2004 tool for sure.
go to real shop with real tools. not old scan tools.

all cars, 1988 to now (usa)
all cars ,1996 era old tools work. great. (N/A here)
all cars 2004 and for sure 2008 needs a modern CAN-bus scan tool. Some cars went to CAN-BUS early, YMMV.
sometimes the old wrong scan tool will see old P0 federal
scan codes, but will miss all the important new scan DTCs.
OBD2 evolved fast, you must track this or fail.

TCM or shift solenoid

on 96 cars some can only flash codes.
so read the manual FSM>
or login to and read how to scan your TCM.
on about 1997 most cars the PCM gets all TCM codes side loaded.
prior to that , its a jumper wire, to the TCM and OD blinks some tranny lamp blinks.

How to fits my chech light on my 1992 ls 400 lexus

fix 1992 lexus. posted to Acura. ok../....
the lamp is just a warning, it sits behind a sea of tests.!
what we all do, from 1988 to now is..... (USA)
we scan it. in your case this old car does not use modern scan tools
that car is too old here, 1996 is the year of smart OBD2 tools
but not all is lost. there are the blink codes
you insert a bent paper clip (metal) to the CHeck connector
aka: diagnostic jumper.
the CEL them flashes out codes. for what TEST is failing
first google hit.

do that, and report the codes.

with out obd2 means OBD1, in that link.
hackers do have scan tools for OBD1, but ill not go there.

Check engine light on

a 1993 will have the old OBD I system in it. You will be able to get the check engine light to flash by making a jumper and inserting it into the A and B terminal on the ALDL connector under the dash. The ALDL is the connector that you would plug a scan tool into.aaec4d88-da23-44e1-93a1-e4ce39abfe63.gif
You can see by the image what 2 contacts you are wanting to connect with your jumper wire. When you turn your key to the "ON" position your check engine light will flash a series of flashes and pauses. These are your codes, you will need to get a code book to decode what the problem is.

96 plymouth voyager. PO113 code appears. Recent timing belt, power steering belt, and serpentine belt replaced. Harmonic balancer replaced along with idler pully were recent repairs. Car runs rough at...

First, if you have access to a scan tool, is there an IAT reading? If the IAT reading is logical then the problem is likely intermittent. If the reading is less than -30 degrees, unplug the connector. Install a jumper wire between the harness connector signal and ground circuits. The IAT temperature reading on the scan tool should be maxed out at the high end. For example it should be 280 degrees Farenheit or higher. If it is, the wiring is okay, and it may have been the connection. If it isn't install the jumper wire between the IAT signal circuit and the chassis ground.

If now the IAT reading on the scan tool is maxed out then check for an open in the IAT ground circuit. If you get no reading at all on the scan tool, it's likely that the sensor signal is open or the 5 volt reference is missing. Check using a DVOM (digital volt ohm meter) for a 5 volt reference. If it's there, then unplug the connector at the PCM and check for continuity on the IAT signal circuit between the PCM connector and the IAT connector.goodluck

Show me how to read code from 2000 grand prix

codes on anything 96 and up require a scan tool to read... the jumper trick doesn't work on ODBII equipped vehicles. only OBDI is capable of getting codes from the jumper trick.

How to read trouble codes on 1998 Toyota Camry w/o scan tool

You can go to any auto parts store and they will usually read them for you for free. Around the late 90s many of the auto computer systems began requiring scan tools rather than the older method of simply flashing lights on the dash if you jumpered the correct pins.
