Car turned over for five mins after engine switched off

I started my car up this evening and it seemed a bit sluggish. I noticed a strange sound from under the driver/passenger seat area (where I believe most of the engine is located). On stopping the car and turning the engine off the car continued to rattle and turn over (with the engine switched off and the keys out)...It made an awful smell and continued for about five munites until it slowly ground to a halt!!! The smell is like burned rubber!!! HELP!!

Thank you for the quick answer...I have been having a few problems with it recently and the main one is that sometimes when I start the car up it just 'clicks' instead of starting straight away. I have had someone come over and start the car for me after a few turns. They have said it is caused by doing too many short journeys although I am not convinced as I take it out on longer journeys most days!
    Could this all be connected?

U HAVE SEVERELY OVERHEATED THE ENGINE FOR SOME REASON, U MAY HAVE LOST THE COOLANT FROM THE ENGINE OR THE WATER PUMP FAILED, THAT AWFUL SOUND IS KNOWN AS "DIESELING" AND IS CAUSED BY THE RED HOT ENGINE CONDITION, AT THIS POINT ALL U CAN DO IS GET THIS TO A TRUSTED REPAIR SHOP AND SEE HOW BAD THE DAMAGE IS, BUT BASED ON WHAT U HAVE SAID YOU WILL NEED MAJOR REPAIRS.

Based on my 35 years as a professional technician i would say no, something has happened that caused the engine to overheat, don't drive this until you find the cause, you most likely either ran low on oil or the coolant leaked out or the water pump drive belt came of, have it checked as soon as possible

Hello the wrench symbol could be a head light or signal bulb, or low fluid in the engine compartment you will have to really be most observant to pin point it.However check engine light will need to be tested with a OBD2 scan tool to retrieve your cars malfunction this usually cost from$25.00 up? plus the cost of parts and labour. It would only be guessing to try and begin to figure out what the engine fault would be without doing the OBD2 Engine scan hope this information was a help to you. Merry Christmas.

Loss of power til safe mode. cleaned all harnesses, disconnected and reconnected battery after 5-6 mins. car drove better than ever for 5 mins then started to die. it is 1600 over service

Eh , We have a S400L CDI . It won't go out of Safe-Mode (Can't get more then 3000 RPM and the engine start's making a strange sound) . On the dashboard display it say somthing with Triptron Problems, We have connected it to a Engine test and nothing seems to be wrong . It might be the Radar if you have one on the car.

Noise from engine or transmission cant tell

The sound could also be from the fuel pump. This comes on a cold engine. The way to sort it is to change your driving technique. Do not accelerate too much till the temp gauge starts showing the change. for the first minute or two if you do not accelerate too much then you may not hear the sound the rest of the day. Let the engine/fuel pump warm up a little and then you drive your normal self.

Code 1529

Whenever the 'CHECK ENGINE' light comes on, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). These codes identify the particular engine management system which caused the light to come on. P1529 is a TCM MIL request to the
ECM.
TCM = Transmission Control Module. The sluggishness is really what is known as 'fail safe' mode (3rd gear). You should have had other codes besides P1529 to identify which system in the transmission caused the problem.

check/clean battery terminals, if ok check starter wires for voltage(while turning key to start) and tightening or corrosion. If all check out ok replace the starter. If you have no voltage at the starter check your relays and ignition switch. Hopefully this helps
