It could be the voltage regulator. On the firewall just left of the dist. It may have a bad ground or it may just need to be replaced.

My 1991 dodge ramcharger will not charge. I have had it to the repair shop twice and they keep saying its the alternator. They said they tested the complete charging system and found nothing wrong with...

compare the voltage at the back of the alternator (large post) to the voltage at the battery, when sitting while engine off and running-the readings should be identical. If not, you have a wiring problem or if that is ruled out, the ECM is the issue. You should get readings of 12.5+ volts after sitting overnight, and close to 15 volts when first started, gradually dropping down to about 14.2 volts, at BOTH locations.

check te ground. you should have a good ground from the battery to the enguine block and from the enguine block to the firewall somewhere but need both grounds.

Have a '91 Dodge Dakota with a charging problem - Diagnostic error code is 41 - Alternator checks OK - Engine Control Module box has been replaced - Battery has been replaced - Replaced wire going from...

If your alternator tests good off of the vehicle, but will not charge on the truck you need to make sure that the supply wire has 12V and that the field is also getting 12V. If you track it down to the ECU you can save yourself a bunch of money by having an external voltage regulator wired in and bypass the internal ECU regulator.

Charging system is not charging. Battery and alternator good. Any ideas?

check the wires for corrotion at the terminals, especcially the ground wire is prone for problems with corrotion, check on both the alternator and the battery and where they connects to the chassis, also check the wires for other defects

My truck wont charge and the alternator is good, could it be a wiring problem like a fuseabile link

Hi check the earth wire at the battery and also the wires to the rear of the starter motor and altenator, make sure they have good contacts and are not touching each other. also make sure the main battery earth wire has a good contact to the body.

It sounds like the altenator is charging but the charge is not getting back to the battery. make sure the altenator belt is tight.

Im not 100% if this model has a fuseable link, bt your along the right lines something is not connecting somewhere.

I have found this fault is most commonly a melted wire but they can be difficult to find. Sorry I couldnt be more specific. It is difficult without seeing the car.

After changing alternator and voltage regulator. Still not charging. 2nd $15.00 regulator replacment

Check your battery and check the ground wire from battery. Make sure all your wires are clean and good connections. A bad battery will not charge and a dead battery will not charge a alternator maintains a battery not charge a battery, so charge your battery completely before checking that the alternator is working. Check all the wires going to the starter for good tight and clean connections . Hope this helps...
