Question about 2000 Ford Econoline

Heater control switch very hot, light works and switchm, so hot it melted the knob loose and burt my fingers trying to turn it off..???what could cause this?

You need 2 change the switch. probly moisture got in ther and caused it 2 wreck

try locating the physical tap that connects your heater hoses to the interior of the car. note what position that tap is in before and after you turn up the temp dial inside. whatever connects the dial to the tap may be damaged.

if the tap itself turns then the heater side of the blower may be blocked.

Heater controll switch

Hello, I want to tell you about some of the knobs for the temperature control switch, if that is the switch you are referring to.

The way some of the knobs are made, they have a 1/2 moon shape with a metal clip inside them on the backside of the knob. The 1/2 moon shape is also present on the control shaft the knob fits onto. When the knob breaks and splits, the knob rotates around the temperature control shaft without moving anything. From the driver's view, the knob is normal.

You would need to pry off the knob and inspect it, then rotate the temperature control shaft with your fingers or lightly grab it with pliers.

Climate control not lid up

The A/C control head is known to go bad on those vehicles and cause those problems. The panel that it is mounted to is easy to pop off, then the a/c controls screw to the back side of the panel.

2oo2 ford expedition heater will not get warm,thermostat and coolant replaced.The temperture control knob turn to cold goes cold,but when turned to hot ,only gets a little warmer.The blower is working...

Before you look at blender doors and Electronic stuff check out your Heat knob. You did not say whether you have a digital or manually controlled heater. On the manual controls the heater knob is subject to breakage.

If you take off the knob and look behind it, there is a metal clip with an irregular shape that fits onto the control shaft. The knob housing is subject to cracking. You can take a pair of pliers and gently turn the shaft. Your heat should immediately increase provided the vehicle is hot and the heater controls are set.

A new knob runs about $9 at a Dealer. Salvage yards want to sell you the entire control assembly and not the knob. If you think about gluing it, you will need to know where because the outer ring limits the turning range.

If you have a Digital dash, there is a set of diagnostic functions that will identify the defects. The problem is having references to the Codes, the technical terms, and knowing how to initiate the test cycle. You can try a Browser search for "Ford Climate Control", add Diagnostics, add problem solving, and you may find those answers.

I have a SAAB 9-3 2001 which the heater is constantly on hot even when the knob is pointing to cold, the knob has little to no resistance when turning. the heater worked fine but the car was off road for...

if the heater controle is manual its more than likely come off the other end in the dash, remove the switch and see if the arm behind it is loose, on 900ds we used to remove the top speaker to get in there on 93's i think you can remove the front of the dash to see however iv not done it on my 93aero as its done with buttons, hope this helps

The sliding switch on the console is stuck in the cold position and the knob is pulled off. Use pliers to jiggle the switch as best you can. Feel under the center console and you probably will find the cable that is hooked up to the flapper. You'll know because when you jiggle the cold/heater switch at the upper console, the cable will move slightly. At the hookup of the cable to the flapper down under the console (passenger side) try to work the flapper loose to the open (or close) position. At the same time work the sliding switch (with pliers). The flapper will come loose and function properly. Try not to knock of the AC button like I did in the process. It flew off some where under the passenger seat. I'll find it sometime before summer. Ha.

Have you tried replacing the heater core ? If the flushing of the heater core did not work, the heater core may be bad. Very clogged with gunk and residue. did you try to check the valve that opens the hoses to the heater core. This valve can be vacuum, opened by cable or electric. Check to see if the hoses get hot at the firewall. they should be hot.
