No options, take it back right away and have it fixed. If something was not done properly and the belt comes off, major engine damage will occur. Most shops would be begging you to return asap. They would rather deal with it now when it might just be something minor, as opposed to having to fight with you over a new engine.

Why is engine knocking?

the serpentine belt is an accessory drive belt --a/c --alternator--power steering--water pump--etc it does not have affect on timing ---if you have an engine knock while running that would more than likely be a "rod knock" "piston knock" from a burnt main bearing, piston wrist pin ,damaged rod --if your timing was off poor running ,misfire,no start ,banging in upper engine valves hitting piston,

Depends if it is a no tolerance motor, which means bent valves.

First of all, you must state WHY you are changing the timing belt. If you are changing the belt due to a scheduled maintenance, then we would have to go from there, but if you are replacing a belt that has broken---well my friend------I am here to tell you that you have what is called an "Interference Engine". An Interference Engine is an engine that does not have adequate clearance between the pistons and the valves in case of a timing belt failure. Lacking this adequate clearance, in the case of a timing belt failure, the pistons "Interfere" with the valves, causing them to bend. This "Knocking" noise that you hear is more than likely the pistons banging against bent or broken valves. This can be diagnosed by doing a compression test. However, when seeking advice, next time , give the history of the vehicle prior to the parts exchange. It can help narrow your situation to the problem by 90 + %.

Cold engine knock after timing belt and water pump replaced

Hi, this could be because the cam timing is a notch or 2 out. The fact that it quiets down when the engine heats up is because the timing is retarded as the engine reaches operating temperature. You will have to look at the cam timing and make sure that they have done it correctly. If that is fine it might be that they have dropped something, like a bolt or nut into the valve cover when it was removed.

Knock in engine

Hello,

will831, If you will go to your local auto parts store and get an additive that is called Lucas Oil Treatment, it may helps to stop or quiet the knocking that you are experiencing. Also, Lucas has a great fuel additive that cleans your fuel injectors. I highly advise using both of these products intermittantly, to keep your engine in great shape.

Respectfully,
