Yes it could be .But more than likely it the intake gasket running down the back of the motor.if it is a freeze plug than the transmission must come out .If it is the intake this will be a little easier but the distributor will have to come out so the intake can come up.

Ihave 2004 ford Taurus and its leaking a lot of water and antifreeze from underneath it appears to be coming from the back of the motor, can you give me any ideas?

Freeze plugs or casting plugs. Sometimes these plugs corrode through or freeze and push out and coolant leaks out.

Water leak from back side of motor

Freeze plugs in each head as well as in the block will leak over time. Don't just replace one...replace them all or you will keep having leaks as each freeze plug rusts through enough to leak.

yes there are freeze plugs are you sure your hose clamps are tight,is this leak the reason you changed water pump, you need to have this truck on a hoist so you can find the origin of the leak

Water leaking, overheating, not a hose or heater core, somewhere way back in the motor, not the water pump either. what is back there that could be causing this?

Freeze plug or head gasket. Freeze plugs are known to rust out over a period of years.

Could be in the block or head.
