The alternator in a DODGE Intrepid operates various electrical devices in the vehicle while the engine is running. A voltage regulator keeps the voltage level constant and is usually part of the alternator assembly. 1)Determine which alternator your Dodge Intrepid will need. You'll want to be sure the new alternator is compatible with your Intrepid's engine. Models made from 1993 to 1997 have a 3.3 L EGA or 3.5 L EGJ engine. Models produced after 1997 are equipped with a 2.7 L EER, 3.2 L or 3.5 L EGJ engine. 2)Disconnect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench and remove the lower plastic splash shield. Drain the transsmisson fluid and disconnect the lower radiator support. 3)Loosen the "T" bolt, pivot bolt and drive belt adjusting bolt with a socket wrench but do not remove them. This will allow you to disconnect the drive belt. 4)Loosen the terminal nut for the alternator so you can remove the B+ wire. Disconnect the circuit plug for the alternator and remove the pivot bolt, using care not to lose the spacer. Remove the mounting bolts and the alternator assembly. 5)Install the new alternator assembly by reversing the removal procedure. Tighten the terminal nut on the alternator to 89 inch pounds with a torque wrench Use a belt tension gauge and socket wrench to torque the "T" bolt until the tension on the drive belt is 120 lbs. for a used belt and 180 to 200 lbs. for a new belt. 6)Use a torque wrench to torque the pivot bolt and 10mm mounting bolt to 40 foot pounds. I am trying to change my 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage (w/ ac) alternator belt. I loosened the tensioner, took out the top - bottom and inside bolt of the ac compressor to take off the first belt and even took...

I would replace the steering pump belt at the same time you do the alternator belt (buy both).
To take off the alternator belt .
First , take off the negative battery cable so you do not blow an expensive fuse on the positive battery cable clamp(or a block fuse under the hood). Facing the back of the automobile , reach UNDER the alternator and loosen the bolt on the bottom right side, now loosen the bolt on the adjuster block on top, you can now turn the adjuster bolt and move the alternator to change the belt.
To take off the steering pump belt on the front of the motor, you need to loosen the nut on the back side of the pulley (right side of pump mount), the nut holds the adjuster pulley in place . With the adjuster pulley nut loose , you can use the adjuster bolt to move the pulley to adjust/take off the steering pump belt.

How do i change my alternator in my 2001 Mercury cougar, the alternator is not the easiest to get to?

I compiled some info while searching for this problem
This is just what you probably need, but most should be accurate.

Tools needed :
Socket Set (10,13,14,15, MM I remember using off the top of my head I'm sure there's more)
Extensions (totaling 13-15")
3/8" wobble adapter
3/8" impact universal joints (cheapys just wont do it)
1/2" to 3/8" adapter (impact recommended)
1/2" breaker bar...or you can try with a regular ratchet...but if it's a cheapy...)

If you have at least these tools, you are on a good start, you may need something I'm not mentioning, but these listed above are HIGHLY recommended.

The order I went in...
Passenger Tire
Splash Shields (both)
Serpentine Belt

I was able to feel ALL the bolts with my hand (you just wont be able to SEE them very easily, so have the new alternator handy to know where the old ones are)

The top bolt is pretty easy to get to if you have the right setup of wobble, extensions, and 13 MM socket...

You can achieve this from the DRIVER side of the Y Pipe exhaust...the reason most people say "remove the Y Pipe" ... it does make it EASIER, but more costly, I chose to not replace the exhaust gasket and risk messing up more than I needed to..

The bottom bolt is similar, access from the DRIVER side of the Y Pipe, and you can actually see the bolt from under the car. There's also a little bolt holding the alternator in the center on the back. Then disconnect the wires from the back of the alternator....a small clipped on wire (towards the bottom), a wire held by a 10MM nut, and the 3/4 prong wire held by a metal clip....all these should be visible from the bottom of the car.

After you've pulled all the bolts and removed all the wires from alternator, get a bar (i just used the breaker bar which was 16" long) to tap the alternator straight towards the ground from the TOP. You have a little room to do this if you open the hood and go between the engine and the firewall. Tap gently....

Pull the alternator on the previously disconnected Tie Rod side of the Hub.

Install is reverse.

FYI, you're impatient, I recommend going by the book. It took be a total of about an hour and half....mainly because I was attempting to use 14MM instead of 13MM on the top wonder it slipped when I torqued it. Good Luck

How do i remove the alternator from my 2001 aztek

you have to remove the washer fluid tank, battery ,and full windshield wiper assembly. there are three bolts that must be removed on the alternator, plus two wires. The alternator sits way in the back under the wiper assembly(passenger side). Almost impossible to get to, right against the firewall, must use a small ratchet wrench, NOT SOCKET-TOO BIG. if this is a diesel its a days job,DISCONNECT BATTERY UN DER PASSENGER SEAT take front grill and the front cross member off drain radiator loosen all bolts on radiator do not undo any connections on air con. jack up car remove plastic belly plate remove drivers side wheel and inner plastic arch cover ther is also a strut that needs to be removed,using a screwdiver prise off the fan timing belt then remove 4 bolts underneath that hold the radiator up you will then need to remove drivers side headlight to gain accsess to the bottom alternator bracket, with this done you can then carefully remove the alternator and remove the bush box and replace the bushes

2004 Yukon. driver side air conditioner not working

you need to change drivers side temp door actuator then disconnect battery for 5 seconds and reconnect after changing the part, turn key on for 60 seconds with touching heater control to allow actuator to program and then it will work.

Replace belt on 2001 toyota echo

that belt is wrapped around the alternator which is located on the passenger side of the engine compartment. loosen the alternator to remove belt. Wrap belt around pulleys and pull the belt tight but adjusting the alternator.

Change alternator

Just did one last night.

As your facing the truck with the hood open, you'll notice the tenion roller just beneath the alternator and the alternator drive pully.

Under normal circumstances, you should be able to put a 1/2" inch socket onto a ratchet or breaker bar and turn to the left to release the tension. Oh no, they had to make it complicated.

What I did was take a tire iron, place the tip just above the pulley, onto the arm itself, and push all the way towards the drivers side. It may be seem difficult and be very careful making sure you have solid contact with the arm. You do not want to damage your pulley or belt.

As the tension is released, slide the belt out from underneath the center pulley between your alternator and A/C unit.

Disconnect your battery, and the wire behind the alternator. Unplug the plastic connector as you want all of your wires / obstructions out of your way.

All of your bolts are 1/2".

Loosen both bolts, of the alternator, and you'll see as you break them, you can unscrew them with your hands.

From the drivers side, I, again, entered the chisel part of the tire iron and lifted up towards the passenger side and the alternator popped right out.

Do the reverse only making sure your belt is perfectly aligned with ALL pulleys as the slightest bit out of whack will make it very difficult to re-install the belt.
