Question about 2005 Pontiac Grand Am

1 Answer

Blown fuses I have a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am equipped with a cigarette lighter. Every time I plug a tire inflater into the lighter receptacle, it blows the fuse. Is this an electrical problem or should I just put in a stronger fuse or will this damage the car? Thanks!

Not a good idea to use a larger fuse( fire hazard ) get the adapter that hooks to your battery or cut the plug and add alligator claps so you can hook it to the battery and you will see it pumps much better right off of the battery

Where is the fuses of the Air Blower and Cigarette Lighter situated

Under the dash, inside the glove box, and check under the hood for the fuse box. On the underside of the fuse box will be labeled what each fuse is for. Blower motor, cigarette lighter.

Used cigarette lighter to inflate tire, left inflater on for a long time now cigarette lighter doesn't work and car doesn't always start

It sounds like you might have drained your battery! When the car is running does the Cigarette lighter produce power? It should be working while the car is running. That would also explain why the car starts sporadically. Try leaving the car on for 40 minutes. That might charge the battery enough.

Could you help, the fuse has blown in my cigarette lighter, i have put 2 new ones in they worked at first but it has blown them as well. Do you know what the cause of it is. Thanks regards julie.

There is either a short in the wiring, lighter socket, or you are drawing too much current. Replacing the socket is probably your best bet as a start.

Plugged in my car charger into the cigarette lighter and my navigation and radio shut off.

It sure sounds like a fuse may have blown, although the cigarette lighter fuse in most cars does not control the radio, and should have been able to handle the car charger without blowing. Take the lid off the fuse box, either under the hood or inside the car under the dash on the right side or left side of the car, and look for a blown fuse. Usually you can tell if they are blown by looking at them.....but you often have to remove them first, depending on the type of fuse used in your car. The inside of the lid may have a chart that shows which fuse controls the radio.
Good luck,

Cigarette lighter while i am inflate one of the tire using it. stop working suddenly?

Looks like you overloaded and blew the cigarette lighter fuse while using a 12v tire inflator pump. Check the fuse and replace it.

Hi
have you tried both the one in the ashtray and the other side of the console and they both will blow the fuse
if so what ever you are plugging in is shorted
try a known good cigarette lighter or something that works in another vehicle
hope this helps let me know

Please the fuse is cut off and it is located in the car beneath the driver side underneath the steering compartment.
