1st, listen as you turn the key to start the vehicle,, real slow! Or have someone listen by the engine as you slowly turn the key to 'start'. If the starter motor itself is defective, you'll hear a 'click' when the solenoid engages to energize the starter. The solenoid MUST engage to allow heavy current to flow to the starter. If you can hear it engage then in all probability it is the starter itself.

Most of the time, you could take a ruber mallet and tap the starter as the parts inside become "stuck" to eachother. This will hold you over however, till you can get another start as this is not a fix but rather a temporary solution.

No push starting is not the same as jump starting.Jumpstarting is done buy using another vehicle or battery like a jumper pack to give it power. It sounds like you will need to change the starter it's self.It most likely has what they call a dead spot in it and either needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

Is it the fuel pump if i always have to push start my 1988 ford ranger? i charged up the battery many times it just turns over and over but fine when i push start it.

Find the starter solenoid. Follow the positive battery cable to the black round solenoid. There should be a small wire attached to it that is red with a think a green tracer. Remove that wire and then try to start. If it starts replace the ignition module.

I had a problem with my starter solenoid my truck was not starting. i have a 1996 ford ranger i bought a new one the truck started a few times and then it stopped. what is my problem.

You should have your battery tested & make sure that the terminals are cleaned & well protected wth grease once charged fully. Since you crossed/jumped the solenoid & didn't get it to start until jumping the battery (providing extra voltage), that rules out the solenoid and the ignition switch. Sometimes a battery will test full without a load but will not provide the voltage to the solenoid to actually complete the circuit, thus the clicking sound. If the battery is strong, and the starter bad, the solenoid will click solidly once, passing full voltage to the starter that will either turn, hum, or do nothing. good luck

How to fix obd2 code 1443 on 96 ford ranger emisson test failed

It is usually carbon pieces from the evap carbon canister clogging the purge solenoid and purge flow sensor. There should still be a one piece purge solenoid and purge sensor with hose assembly available. You will also need to replace the carbon storage canister.
After replacement disconnect the negative battery cable, hold your foot on the brake pedal for 30 seconds, then reconnect the battery.
