Question about 2001 BMW 325
Check the coolant level in the expansion tank first, no coolant then it sounds like the head gasket. If the coolant is ok then it sounds like it's the catalytic converter, the reduction in power is where the debris from the cat blocks the tail pipe / silencer.

Congratulations, you just blew the head gasket. 4 maybe 5 thousand dollars. Get it done for $2500 and chances are you'll have to get it done again.
Only take it to someone who knows how to work on the Vanos system.
