The solution that my neighbor arrived at was. He pulled a plug and noticed that it was fouled. I guess I forgot to change plugs, because the truck ran well. The plugs had 126,000 miles on them, got my monies worth. He continued pulling plugs, and they were all fouled. Replaced them, and with some prolonged cranking she fired up. He suggested that I take her for a run at high RPM's. That is what I did, and it seemed to solve the problem. Thank you for your suggestions.

Something is wrong there. because if you have spark and you spray starting fluid in the motor it will start as long as there is compression. did you check the spark plug for spark or did you checl the wire for spark? your plugs maybe the issue or you missing something. because a motor will run no matter what or atleast try to start is you spray starting fluid and there is spark and compression. recheck it and let me know what you find. i can help further then.

Check the fuel pressure at the valve on the fuel rail with a pressure gauge, you need to see at least 55psi of fuel pressure for the truck to run. You may be getting fuel, but not enough pressure. This is a good place to start your diagnosis. These trucks are know for fuel rated problems.

I realize the fuel pump has been replaced, but was the pressure checked and if so, what was the pressure???

  • GetMeOttaHere Feb 02, 2010

Wow... I assumed no one would ever NOT replace plugs, especially for 126,000 miles!

Im getting a crank/ no start situation on my 93 chevy astro ext 4.3Ltr v6 and ive never let a vehicle beat me b4 but this one is giving me a sound whoopin - pls help

Easiest way to trouble shoot a crank no start is to spray starting fluid into the air cleaner intake before you crank it. If it fires then dies it is a fuel problem. If it doesn't fire it is a spark problem. If it fires then dies, check the fuel pressure at the engine end of the fuel line. Pressure below spec prevents the injectors from working properly. See shop manual for the proper procedure.
If it doesn't fire put a spark tester at one of the plug wires set to the proper gap to measure the spark voltage being developed by the coil etc. Good luck.

Engine for 2000 chevy silverado will not start

make sure you have fuel going to the mottor then make sure you have spark to the spark plugs. if no fuel then your filter or fuel pump may be bad. if no spark then your crank sensor is bad . also it may be your timming belt or chain

Mechanic told us problem was fuel pump in 2002 chevy silverado, we replaced the pump but seem to have air in lines...have tried and tried but can't get it to start??

try some starting fluid, see if it will fire, if it will then yes theres a problem in the fuel lines inspect the lines all the way back to the tank also check and see if its not a cloged fuel filter, if you spray starting fluid and it wont fire up then check your ignition system spark plugs wires ect.

2002 chevy 3500 duramax 6.6 ran hot now cranks but won't start

Check spark plugs, leads, distributor cap & rotor arm, fuel pump, fuel filter, coil pack(s), relays, replace any items that are suspect IE Fuel filter which has probably not been changed since new even though they should be changed on all vehicles every 18 months, all of this can be done at home & will save you a lot of bucks in mechanic/garage fees,

Car wont start or fire even with starting fluid

To review - - if you have spark, fuel, and compression, you should have combustion.
In this case, if the timing belt is damaged, you might not have compression or spark at the right time.
A faulty crank or cam sensor could cause you not to have spark at the right time.
The spark plugs could be worn out or fuel fouled and not able to fire under compression.
Did the car die or just not start ?

1997 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4 will not start. Getting spark checked all fuses, changed rotar - spark plug wires,

Have you checked the fuel pressure? Fuel pumps are a common failure item on those trucks. Pick up a cheap fuel pressure gauge and hook it up to the shrader valve on the fuel rail. With the ignition on and you should have 55-65psi. Even if it's a few psi below spec it could stop the engine from firing.Once you determine the fuel pressure isn't adequate make sure you have a good power and ground at the fuel pump. If that checks out, time for a new fuel pump module. I recommend only replacing it with an AC delco unit, I've heard bad stories about aftermarket replacements.
You could also spray some carb cleaner or starting fluid in the throttle body and crank the engine over. If it runs for a few seconds after spraying starting fluid in you know you have a fuel delivery problem.
