98 lincoln town car won't start. fuel pump

98 lincoln town car won't start. fuel pump doesn't run when ignition is placed in Run position. I will make sure power and ground to the pump are checked out before i replace the pump. where is the inertia switch on a 98 town car? is there any other things i should look at that may disable the fuel pump?

The enginr oil pressure switch runs the fuel pump till the oil pressure is up to the normal operating range. When the pressure is up the relay kicks in and takes over the power to the pump. The oil pressure switch my be at fault if you can no hear the pump running when you turn the key on

If that is not the problem, locate the fuel pump cut-off switch and try resetting it.

98 lincoln town car will start but runs only for a few seconds to a few minutes then shut off

U need to check your crankcase starting sensor. OR it could be a fuel problem. Usually fuel pump doesn't allow the car to start at all. So it shouldn't be that. But it could be an extremely clogged filter.

I have a 98 Lincoln Town Car i have replaced the fuel pump, coilpack, fuses, new PCM and the car will still not start. I think there is a problem with the wiring from the fuse box to PCM can you guide me...

possible , but I suggest running the fault codes first as the problem could be a crank/cam position sensor, immobilizer or ignition control module or fuse

Lincoln Town Car Fuel System Failure?

I have replaced my fuel pump and fuel pump relay and the car(1988 Lincoln Town Car) ran fine for two months. Now it will not start. The fuel pump relay has 4.6 volts when the ignition is on, it is not...

Have to look at a wiring diagram to figure that out

At least I would.

Does the relay energize in your hand,
with batt & grd on coil & ohm meter on
it's contacts, to see if their burnt?

e.g. do you need 12 + volt for it to work

Your looking for a voltage drop ---maybe

Don't rule out the ignition switch it gets a lot of use

I have a Lincoln town car1998 my Car won't start i

You say t pump is coming on, but do you fuel coming up to the fuel injector rail? You can check for fuel by pushing down the valve located at the left front side of fuel rail. It looks like a tire air fill stem. Be very careful as fuel is under 40 psi pressure and can spray all over the place. do this with engine OFF and have a rag to cover the valve. Just press with tip of screwdriver and be sure valve is covered. If a little gas come out,you know you have fuel. If not gas then check fuel delivery system i.e pump, filter, lines or pickup tube.

If there is fuel in the rail, then there is most likely a problem with the control module (computer).
Check for fault codes with an OBD II reader. You can usually rent one at your local part store. You can look up fault codes to find out where the problem might lie.

Good Luck.

Occasionally my 98 chevy P/U won't start. The fuel pump does not run. If I fool around with the Ignition switch I eventually get the fuel pump to run, then it will start and run fine.

The fuel pump only comes on for 2 seconds when the ignition switch is turned on until it starts.I would check the fuel pressure it should be 60-66 psi with key on engine off.Sounds like a weak fuel pump to me you'll know once you check the pressure. If its not within specs replace pump.

Cranks but will not start headlights come on 100,000 miles have never tuned up 2001 town car

Listen for the fuel pump to run for the first 5 seconds after you turn the key to "ON".

If you don't hear the pump run (it's in the fuel tank), check the fuse per your owner manual, check the fuel pump relay. If not one of them, then you need a fuel pump.

If pump is running, then you have an ignition issue. Check for spark at the spark plug.

1986 Lincoln Towncar will not start. I can't hear the fuel pump priming when ignition is the run position; can anybody please help me?

try restting the inertia switch in the trunk. When you turn key to "ON", the fule pump will run for only 5 seonds if the engine does not start. Listen at the fuel tank for humming of the pump. The PCM, Powertrain Control Module controls the fuel pump relay. So, when you turn key on, the power relay powers up the PCM and the PCM powers up the fuel pump relay.

1990 Lincoln TC fuel pump dead

from the ignition switch or the starter, power is taken fromeither of these points to fire the fuel pump on start. This is what charges the fuel system so that you can start. then your fuel pump goes into run mode.

If someone can make a power check on the wiring going to the fuel pump with the engine is being cranked, you can possibly solve your problem.
