Well, you need jack stands unless you can do it from the top.. unhook your battery then undo the 2 or 3 bolts holding starter, then unhook 2 power wires on starter, make sure wires go back where they came from, or you mite be doin it again...

First make sure you have enough clearance to work on the vehicle you may need a jack or jack stands. Then make sure your tires are blocked and emergency brake is on then disconnect the battery. Theres two bolt securing the starter to the engine block and two wires running from the battery to the starter. take the wires off and when your ready reverse the steps........

SOURCE: starter removal/installation for a 1992 chevy

Its easier than it looks. It takes about twenty minutes. Pull it from underneath. I think i had to pull my oil filter for better access. If so the filter is a 3980 just in case. Its been a couple years but it was alot easier than i thought it would be.

SOURCE: 1992 lumina z34 euro starter seems hopelessly

First dissconect the power from the batt

jack the front end up
Find a15 mm socket and extention and grab a swivel for the short bolt

And you will need a 13 mm socket with a small extention

Now onbolt the starter and you might want to take of your oil filter to

Then with some weird wiggeling of the starter moter you should be able to fenese it to the side

And then just onbolt the wires

I have a 1992 chevy lumina 3.4L engine and I had to replace the starter. I am putting the starter in and I need to know how many wires to hook up? My dad thinks there's a wire missing.

Dual overhead cam (euro)?

the small purple wire will go to the small terminal on the starter. there should be 3-4 other wires that attached to the large terminal of the starter.

I have a 1992 lumina and it was giving me a problem when i would start it, it would take about 4 tries before it would start, so I replaced the plugs and wires the other day but every once in awhile it is...

It could be that your starter is dragging a bit (starting to go) and with you putting in new plugs and wires you have bettered or increased the spark making the car easyer to start.
