I have a 1999 Buick century and I put the new suprtene belt on and the motor turns but not the belt

If the belt is installed properly and all the pulleys turn, the tensioner is most likely bad and not supply enough tension for the belt

How do you replace the serpentine belt on a 1995 Buick century 4 cylinder?

This is the advertised procedure:

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Except Serpentine Belt
It may be necessary to loosen more than one pulley or remove another belt to access the drive belt, such as the power steering and air conditioning.
  1. Loosen the driven accessory's pivot and mounting bolts.
  2. Move the accessory toward or away from the engine until there is enough slack in the belt to slip it over the pulley of the driven accessory.
  3. Remove the belt from the engine.
  4. Install the new belt and move the accessory toward or away from the engine until the tension is correct. You can use a wooden hammer handle as a lever, but do not use anything metallic.
  5. Adjust the belt tension, then tighten the bolts.
Serpentine Belt
  1. Place a tool over the tensioner pulley axis bolt.
  2. Rotate the tool counterclockwise to relieve belt tension.
  3. Remove the drive belt.
  4. Carefully release the tensioner pulley and remove the tool.
To install:
  1. Route the belt over the pulleys, except tensioner.
  2. Place tool over tensioner, rotate counterclockwise and install belt.
  3. Remove the tool, then check alignment of tension and belt.

Replace Alternator - Belt Tension Pulley

If the tensioner doesn't automatically reset to the proper position, then the spring in the tensioner arm is bad. Need to replace the tensioner assembly, in that case.

The belt tensioner makes a loud screeching noise

there is a 15 millimeter bolt in the center of the tensioner, first take belt off of it so there is no pressure and then remove that bolt.
when you are putting the new tensioner on make sure you align the doll pin with it's hole when you are tightening the bolt.

I have a buick century 1997 that needs a new fan belt. Can I do it myself, and how do i do it?

This car should have an electric fan. Maybe you mean a new serpentine belt. Yes you can do it yourself. There is a tensioner that you have to loosen the tension on the belt. The old one will come right off and the new one will go right back on. You will have to loosen the tensioner again to get the new one on. It is a pretty easy job. Make sure you draw a diagram of how the old belt is routed.

How to change a belt on a 1995 Buick Century

A listing of serpentine belt diagrams can be found HERE. It will show you the location of the tensioner pulley, which must be loosened in order to remove and install the new belt. When the new belt is on, just readjust the tension via the tensioner pulley.
