Question about Cadillac DeVille

2 Answers

Just switched out a TPS on my 97 Cadillac Deville yesterday. The jerky idling stopped and hesitation while accelerating also seemed to stop. Tonight driving down the freeway, the engine/gas hesitated around 45 mph (going into 4th gear?)... Now a bit of the rough idling is back.. Any ideas? Is it possible that I may need to replace the exhaust gas recirculation valve as well?

They were all history codes. Yesterday it showed a P0300 Current, but now that is listed as history as well. Should I check it again?

I would check the prom codes onboard and post your codes as found so we can explain what is needed. The cluster will perform your test for codes. If your speedometer is digital simply push the E/M button on the cluster. to reteive the codes or... Take the car to any AUTOZONE store and they will retrieve the codes for free of charge

97 voyager 3.0L stalls at stops and turning shows running rich

You may have two different problems.
The rich mixture could be several things including a faulty O2 sensor or leaking injector. If a sensor fails it should set a code in the computer.
The stalling could be a dirty throttle body or a problem with the idle speed control valve.

It seems the battery in my 04 cadillac deville is dead. I know the battery is located under the rear seat. Can I remove it without adverse effects on the computer?

you can replace battery with out effects.first turn off radio.before removing negative battery cable.when you install new battery, when you start the engine let it idle until get operating temperature.the computer will have to relearn it memory while engine idling operating temperature.open throttle a little see if engine hesitate. it will hesitate some, when you can accelerate with out hesitation, engine tps sensor has relearned it position.if idle speed stable engine dont run rough and stall out in drive your pcm has relearned itself where you can drive it.

2007 JGC 5.7 Hemi hesitates to accelerate when the vehicle is at cruising speeds above 35mph. When it is at a constatnt speed and the throttle is at a fixed position it feels a bit jerky as well.

I suspect TPS (Throttle Positioning Switch) they're basically a rheostat that controls throttle movement. After a while, spots that get most used develop "Hot Spots" - and will cause a surge or hesitation when at that location. Replace TPS.

Sounds like a malfunctioning egr system. Too much egr gasses at once will lean out the air fuel mixture and cause hesitation in an engine. Just my 2 cents.

Hello, Check the distributor, remove cap and see what the rotor looks like, it may have worn through, into the distributor cap from the inside. It could also be the module and or the coil. Wish I could give you a better way to go but its where I would start first.
