The pump is usually mounted on a rubber shoe on the end where the strainer is attached and the other end is held in place by the outlet hose which is rubber as well. If you did not put that little rubber shoe back on the bottom of the new pump, there will be metal on metal contact between the vibrating pump housing and the mounting post. This will make it much easier for the pump noise to travel up and out through the whole car.

Some times this noise will stop later, but if it does not stop ,within 25 miles,it most likely will not, take the pump back as a defective part for exchange.

Fuel Pump

A humming noise in the gas tank is usually a failing fuel pump.
The pump uses liquid gasoline to keep it cool and lubricated.

On a 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix is there an access panel in the trunk allowing me to replace the fuel pump without dropping the tank?

No, unfortunatly not. They did not come up with that feature until later models. The fuel tank will have to be removed and the pump replaced.
Good luck.

It's been a while since I worked on a 92 Grand Prix but there is a plate that you need to remove to get at the fuel pump. It is located in the trunk floor. I believe you have to remove the spare tire to gain access to the plate. This action will reveal the pump & just remove the retaining bolts. Good luck!

I got a 1997 pontiac grand prix gtp coupe. the low coolant light constantly flashes. the coolant fluids are full. i just bought it and i am a little frustrated.

Sometimes the float in the low coolant sensor gets stuck.Find where the electrical connector is on the overflow tank and lightly tap on this area. This might dislodge it,if its stuck.Good Luck!!!
