Transmission shifting hard and heater blowing cold air when idlin

Our van has 115,000 miles and the transmission is shifting hard. We have had it in once and they changed the transmission oil and filter and flushed the system. This seemed to help for about 2 weeks ago and it is shifting hard again. Also, when idling the heater blows cold air and will only heat up when you are driving. HELP!!!

First thing that came to my head reading this is check the coolant level.

Heater motor

Does it still blow air out of the vents? Or is it blowing cold air? If nothing is blowing out most likly just a blower motor try tapping it some its under glove box.If blowing cold air could be low on coolant needs to be press tested.

with the engine warmed up + the heater on fan off check the heater control valve make sure it's not
physicaly damaged then have somone turn the heat
on+off if it is vacum controled pull vac line make sure you have vacum+it starts and stops if it is mechanical you can see if it works or not still the
best test is to pull the valve + blow through it if it's
vacum leave the line on to open and close it
if the valve works it is most likely a pluged heater
core. if you're gonna DIY stop by the library and
check out a chilton/moter/mitchells or haynes
repair manual or you can go to any auto parts store
and buy the haynes repair manual specific to your
car for about $10.00 any of these books will give
you the step by steps and diagrams you need to
do the job. hope this helps any other ? gimme a

The dealer should know this! The EPC solenoid (controls pressure) hangs up with wear and causes the harsh shifts.

Shifting problems

The transmission/computer is designed not to go into overdrive until it reaches a certain temp and I don't remember what the temp is. Mine does same thing and it has 250,000 miles on it. When you start your truck up do you start it and warm up in neutral? The transmission fluid won't flow unless it is. There is know way to force it to shift into overdrive until it warms to the set temp.

Hope this helps

Shifting from reverse to Drive

If your van has alot of miles, then just ignore it. Get a sevice done on it and let it warm up a bit and see if that helps the problem. When the miles get put on, especially with little maintaince, they have a hard time engaging "cold turkey". Another factor is that going from Rev to Drive(1st) you are going from energizing one accumulator to energizing two, and you're switching from the Rev clutch to the Underdrive clutch which tends to bleed off pressure the most.
