Timing is computer controlled there is no way to advance or retard the timing without changing the chip in the computer

The check engine light needs to be addressed. Yes it could be a sensor but you need to know.
The light blinking means the problem is serious, such as a dead miss on one or more cylinders. The light being on means something is happening with the engine performance that could damage the catalytic converter.
Get the computer scanned - most auto parts stores will do it for free in hopes of selling you some parts. Once you have the codes research them online or here.

you need a haynes repair manual to locate instrument cluster screws to replace cluster bulb or replace cluster if digital..

Try powering the fan directly bypassing the relay. if the fans good it'll runall the itime the keys on.

two people told me it was the egr valve
one guy said he replce the hose and it worked for him
