Question about 1983 Chevrolet Blazer
700r4 transmission is mechanical. There are no electrical connection, The shift solenoids are fluid pressure controlled through check valves and the boost valve. Stripped the governor gear may be? No governor, no up-shifts. Happens frequently in Corvettes.
That is the second cause listed for 1st gear range only - no upshift in
the service manual I am looking at. The first is governor valve
sticking. Valves that have been working fine for years don't suddenly "stick"
unless something gets caught in them. Like clutch material, or other
foreign debris, that is a result of a failure.
Best course of action is to take the pan down and have a look. If there's **** in it, you have work to do. If it's fairly clean, pull the governor, and check the driven gear. Good luck but your most likely going to have to rebuild the transmission.
