Question about 1993 Buick Regal

1 Answer

When the wheather is at freezing mode I'm not able to start the car. It seems that the starter is frozen and I have to wait that the wheather get a bit warmer to be able to start the car.

Check the starter, i have seen this before with several vehicles. Maybe install a heatshield between the headers and starter. Get the starter tested also.

Won't start just clicks once when ignition switch is turned

Hi, one click usually indicates a starter with a dead spot on the commutator, but it can also be caused by a burned contact in the solenoid. Try hitting the side of the starter with a hammer. If the car will start after this, replace the starter.

Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6222268-engine_doesnt_crank_turn_over . These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

Turn the key and the engine makes a click noise only and wont turn over. lights and accessories work so i believe battery is good. iam thinking starter or soliniod ?

Yes, if it is making a loud clicking noise it is most likely the starter. The solenoid is working...that is what you hear clicking. Doesn't matter...you get both when you buy a starter anyway.

Car wont start, when i turn the key i only hear 1 click and the check charging system come on. all lights, radio, horn and heater come on

Sounds like the starter could be going bad or frozen. But before I did that I would check the battery to see if it has enough power to start the car. Your battery could have enough power to run radio and lights but not have enough cranking power to start the car especially if you are in a cold area. Low temperatures can cause your starter to freez and your battery to not crank the engine.

2003 extended cab dodge dakota just makes a clicking sound when tring to start, does the same wheather it is charged or jumped, pls help

Since the battery seems fine, this sounds like a starter solenoid needs replacing. Your local auto parts store will be able to get you a replacement and can give you instructions on how to replace it. The solenoid can also be tested by them. Solenoids are not that expensive.
Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks.

Hard to start after shutting off

The starter operates great when cold. When the engine gets to its normal operrating tempreture the starter gets hot. An old starter will have an expanded armature from this causing the starter to drag or just freeze up hot . When its cool it will start again. This will eventuly get hot and the armature will go bad forever on you so get it changed soon

Car won't start up when cold outside

Some more details would be nice, does the engine crank over with the starter but, don't start? Does just click, no turning at all, what weight oil is in the car. If the engine turns with the starter but, won't start I guess I would suspect a frozen gas line, have you added gas line anti-freeze? How many miles are on the car, have you changed spark plugs? The spark plugs are usually good for 100,000 miles, maybe less with with short trip driving.

The circuit is expanding in hot wheather to the point where it is broken. In cold whether circuits and circuit boards contract slightly, reconnecting a weak solder point. Do you have an intermittant check engine light? Is it constantly on? If so new problems can arise, but the check engine light will not tell you about any new issues, it simply remains on. Get it diagnosed at any shop with any OBD2 interface to diagnose your cars specific issues. If not, just save time and replace the starter. It's probably different from engine to engine...you either have a 3.0 liter vulcan V6 or the zoomier 24 valve V6. Call the parts counter at any ford dealer and say the right things and the parts guy may tip you off on known issues. I had a 96 24v..it was a pile.
