Hi J71,

As a rule, the lower numbers are toward the front. When applicable (V-6, V-8) the odd numbers are on the drivers side.

Then there are the side mounted engines.....

Perhaps it would be best if you told me your engine size (displacement).
That way I could tell you for sure.

In case I misread your meaning, is it your goal to fix the problem or just locate the cylinder?

If it's the former, a description of the problem would be helpful too.

I have been told cyclinders 4,5,6 is losing 15% combustion, does anyone know what this could be?

Code 316 is for a random miss at startup. Code 304 is for a miss or power loss on cylinder 4 and 305 is the same thing for cylinder 5. Code 171 is saying the fuel mixture for bank one is too lean.
These issues could be from a weak fuel pump or other fuel related problem.
While compression levels between cylinders could also cause the 300 codes, that would not cause the 171 code. And there should have been a code 306 if all three cylinders having lower compression was the sole issue.
I would check the fuel pressure and look for vac leaks, along with checking the spark plugs and ignition system.

I need to know where the wires run from coil packs to cylinders on 1998 f150 2wd vin w series. It's a 4.6l V-8. Can anyone help???

Ask someone in a supermarket car if you can look at theirs ,it always works .But in all honesty i cannot help as i dont see many vehicles like this here in europe all out newer motors have 3 cylinders. But if this is a 98 vehicle then i may suspect that each coil pack supplies 2 cylinders at the same time so one coil pack may supply say 2 and 4 and so on .as on a 4 cylinder engine 1/4 are on the same coil pack and 2/3 on another and its late now and my poor little single cell brain is thinking straight

If your car is the 2.4L 4 cylinder ( most popular) then it doesn't have a distributor.
The 2.0L 4 cylinder doesn't have a distributor.

The 2.5L 6 cylinder does have a distributor.
