Question about Audi A4

2 Answers

I am having a problem with my audi a4 1997. On start up i turn the key the engine start and then shuts off, once it does this i then have to hold my foot down on the accelerator while starting if i hold the revs up for a few seconds the car will run fine. I have inspected the o2 sensor which seems to be working fine, i have replace the fuel filter, and have clean the fuel line and return line disabling the hoses and blown compressed air through them, but still have not fixed the problem. The problem seems to be intermittent it nearly always happens first thing in the morning when it has been in the garage all night, but during the day it can happen sometimes and then not at all. Please help. Chris

I had the same problem with my car, turned out it was the receiver in the ignition barrel (to say it was the right key) that was faulty.
My car would start then stop immediatly, as it would think it was being stolen as it didn't have the right key. Would still start sometimes tho as the imobaliser wasn't working properly.
Hope this helps.

It might be your fuel pump? try turning on your ignition but do not turn it over, just listen for a humming noise from your car, its should last about 20 seconds or so, if you hear it, its ok fuel pump ok, if you dont, you might have a faulty fuel pump, but it still could be lots of things, but you could try that its a start, sorry not much help

Changed key fob on audi a6 is original key all doors work but engine starts then dies

immobilizer relearn. might need a locksmith, mobile diagnostic or dealer to relearn security. BUT FIRST check youtube and see if there is a procedure you can do yourself. a lot of the times there is. Regards, Tim

I lost my original key and my spare key doesnt work, i have to unlock it manually and the engine starts but shuts off again

you need the original key for the security system to allow you to run the car, call up the dealer with your vehicle identification number and get a new key made so you have a key with the transponder.

2003 Audi A4 1.8T FWD. First gear engaging with a **** after changing fluid

Insufficient fluid ?
Did you use a scanner to monitor the fluid temperature while re filling trans?

Try 'Adaption'.

Turn on Ignition key without starting throttle all the way to the floor...hold for 10 seconds and turn off key.

This MIGHT reset trans to factory default.

You may have disturbed the wire loom at the trans which is known to corrode and resistance changes,. Without a scanner you cannot check solenoid operation.

How do I turn off service engine light on 1988 volvo 740 gle

One way that always works is to disconnect the battery for at least ten minutes. If the cause of the check engine light turning on in the first place is not fixed, then the light will come on again pretty quickly after starting the car.
To reset your service light here are the steps.

1. Get in your car and shut the door.
2. Put your key in the ignition
3. Turn your ignition key to position 1
4. Push in your Odometer reset button and hold it in while holding it move the ignition key to position 2 while holding down the odometer reset button.
5. After couple of seconds of holding the button down and the key in position 2 your service light will start to blink once that happens let go of the reset button and start the car.

When I start my Audi A6 Quattro, a warning light goes on which says Inspect. I don't have a manual. What to do?

It doesn't mean there's a problem. That inspection message is based on miles driven, not on any problem that the car has detected. On my A4, the "service oil" message pops up every 5000 miles. I just turn it off because I do my oil changes more often than that and the message does not coincide with my intervals.

On the A4 (and I suspect the same on your A6), to turn off the message, put the key in the ignition. On the gauge cluster, there are two stalks. Hold down the left one and turn the key to full electrical power (right before you'd crank the engine). Still holding in the left stalk, pull out on the right one and the message should change to "- - - -". Release the right stalk, turn the key off, and then release the left stalk. Turn the key back on and the message should be gone.

It may take a couple tries, but once you get it right, you'll be good to go for another (probably) 5000 miles.

Audi A4 key will not come out after turning engine off

did it just start doing this? try to lift the key up gently while pushing in then while holding up pull key out. if that does not work then try reverse of this going down, dont yank on it though. it would really help though if i know when it started to happen. did you just purchase the vehicle and its been doing it, or did it just start. is the car a manual or automatic? let me know so i can unstress you.
