Does a 01 mercury cougar have a radiator fan switch, and where is it if so?

radiator fan switch ???? has relays ,high speed cooling fan relay an engine cooling fan relay an a cooling fan resistor . A coolant temp. sensor . The temp sensor is a input to the PCM - engine computer ,when temp gets to hot the PCM energizes the relays . There is no radiator fan switch . Videos on youtube . http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html check out wiring diagram here .

Radiator fans not coming on. replaced thermostat and cooling sensor

Hi Bill, is the engine actually getting hot enough for the fans to come on? if the engine does have overheating problem (but you say the temp gauge reads normal) then i would check the operation of the engine temp switch, there are two, one for the gauge and one for the fans.

How long for the ac fan to start working? Ive noticed that the fan does not work when i turn the ac on, can this cause my car to overheat. I check the temp and coolant liquid both seems fine.

the ac fan starts as soon as the ac is switched on
the fan is provide cooling of the condenser before the radiator to prevent high head pressures in the ac compressor
it is the fan at the front of the car mand does not affect engine temp
there is a radiator fan between the engine and the radiator that will not start until the coolant temperature reaches a set temp at which point the ECM switches that fan on
if that fan is not working when the engine is hot , check for fan, coolant temperature sensor switch , fan relay, fuses or problem ECM

Primary cooling fan only comes on when i turn ac on

You would need a scanner and an inferred temp sensor to troubleshoot the system.
You need to know what the actual engine temp is, and what the temp sensor is telling the computer.
If and when the engine reaches 220 degrees, the engine temp sensor should be sending that data to the computer and it should ground the fan relay to activate it.
Unplugging the sensor and having the fan run tells you the sensor is connected, and there should have been a trouble code set at that time.
It is possible the coolant level is low, or something else preventing the temp sensor sending the correct data.

2007 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD. I was driving and my digital dashboard reported engine hot and AC turned off. My temperature gauge read cool. What do I need to replace?

This sounds like a bad coolant temp sensor that give computer false reading, check the coolant temp sensor connector and if it is good with no bad wires to connector then replace coolant temp sensor , when the computer gets a signal from temp sensor that engine is hot it turns fans on high speed to cool radiator and displays a/c turned off , if this truck does not have electric cooling fans then they wont run just explaining what happens depending on engine and cooling set up. replace coolant temp sensor and check connector.

Engine over heating. Does not appear to be losing coolant. Tried to see if fan running but didn't get it hot enough in the garage to see if that is working, however if I switch on the air conditioner the...

the engine coolant temperature sensor may be faulty and stuck in the cold mode (or disconnected or faulty wiring to the sensor). If the engine computer thinks the engine is cold it won't signal the fan relay to turn on the engine cooling fan. the engine coolant temp sensor is not the same sensor that sends information to the coolant gauge on the instrument panel. The ECT sensor has two wires going to it and the coolant temp sender has only one.

Engine cooling fan does not come on, but if you unplug the coolant temp sensor the fans will come on

You found the problem, bad coolant temp. sensor, replace it and it's fix.Hope this was very helpful.

Electric cooling fans will work.

The fans are actuated by coolant temp in the radiator. It is possible to have overheated coolant in the radiator, causing the steam, and your engine not overheating...the temp sensor for your engine is reflecting the engine temp, not the temp of the coolant in the radiator. You problem could be a bad temp sensor at the radiator...not allowing the fans to come on. Good Luck! I hope you find this to be very helpful!

What does a engine coolant temp sensor do? does it tell the fans to come on? i have already replaced the thermostat, but the car still runs hot, but dosn't overheat

yes some coolant sensors do, others just monitor the coolant temp,, the fan switch should be mounted on the radiator, " a plug with 2 electrical terminals on it " and can be tested by bridging the contacts with a pin and the fan should run if not the switch is at fault..
