I have a 2004 Tahoe. When I put it in reverse it make a loud consistent grinding noise and doesn't go anywhere. But when I put it in drive, it engages. The speedometer shows that I am going up to 50 mph...

Not sure what your looking for in an answer here. If you are capable pull it out and check it out. If you are not capable take it to a shop for repair or replacement. I fear there is no easy fix for a transmission going bad. Since you say there is a bad grinding noise, it wont be a simple wire loose or vacuum line etc.

95 chevy k1500 i put the truck in 4 wheel drive and heard a grinding then the truck moved alittle bit and lost reverse. Then lost all forward gears. could it be the transfer case or tranny

it sounds like the transfer case is in neutral good test start truck place trans in reverse slowly try to place back in park if it makes any noise then the output shaft of transmission is turning then problem is in transfer case move that lever back & forth several times this might get it working again

My 2001 tahoe makes a loud clicking noise in forward motion. The faster you go and the warmer the vehicle is it goes away. Then in reverse it makes a loud scraping noise. Help plz.

how well does reverse work and check color and level of trans fluid with engine running and warm also feel for grittyness of fluid if gritty and browning your trans may be going out

I am unable to get reverse in my Chevrolet Tahoe 96. Serviced transmission 9 months ago and all has been fine. Seems to be shifting a little different when going forward. Please help.

the reverse sun gear shell is a very common problem with the chevy 4l60 transmissions. the trans will need to be taken out of the truck and repaired.

I have a 1996 Tahoe 4x4 and every so often when I put in reverse it makes a loud grinding noise near the transfer case. I have to put it back in park and it stops then i put it back in reverse and it's...

if you want it fixed go to transmission shop that offers a warranty on there work in writing.
it will be in the trans and be prepared to spend about 1500 dollars to get the trans rebuilt.

My 96 taho makes a noise

Change the U-joints on the rear drive shaft. They don't have to move to be bad. The bearing in the joints are rusted. Be sure to mark the yolks on your drive shaft and rear diff pinion. They are ballanced are must go back in the same way you took them apart.

With that being said, did you drop the shaft an dnot put it back in the right way? that will cause a vibration. Also, have you checked to see if there is any play in your pinion shaft?

1996 suburban makes grinding noise in 2 wheel drive

sounds like the clip on the rear output shaft its probably broke. do this by removing the rear driveshaft, and the tail of the transfer case, there are 4 bolts holding it in place. then grab the output shaft and see if it has any front to back movement. if so pull it all the way to the rear and you should see a groove at the front part of the shaft where the clip goes. Then you should find the pieces fo the clip in the tail housing. One person said he found the replacement clip at a local tranny shop. I am calling the dealership parts counter for a new clip for my 97 Tahoe tomorrow. Hope this helps..
