1996 F350 4x4 7.5l Shifts fine when cold. After 30-40 miles tranny sticks in 1st gear while accelarating from stop and will rev to 4500 RPM before slamming into third gear. If you let it rev to approx....


Changing the fluild ( all of it) might fix it if your lucky. Something overheating sounds possible. Any cooling system problem can cause this and cleaning the cooling system and flushing out the transmission cooler in the raditor may go a long way towards fixing your problem. dity raditor and or coolant will cause this problem. I you clean everything real good and then go and drive it and it goes longer but still does it your in for another rebuild. this time put in a new raditor to make sure the transmission lasted as long as it's supposed to. It's possible the throttle pressure was'nt set right and the trans upshifts too early and therefore the transmission gets too hot cause the engine is going too slow to make good transmission pressure and the slipping transmission overheats. again even after corrected it'll still do it as the transmission internal seals are adamaged by heat and it'll need to be rebuilt again.

There is a recall for harsh downshift in 4cyl versions of your generation Sonata. It is a simple ecu update a dealer can do and it should cost you nothing.

I have a 1993 plymouth grand voyger 3.3 engine automatic transmission wont shift out of second to drive and over drive


i have had this problem before. driving around 45mph still in second gear. when u let off of gas van lurches as if you were downshifting to stop. however, van is automatic. doesn't make sense. van is low on oil and causes gears to stick. like some insane nightmare. give it a quart of oil and you will find the van easily changing gears and acting normal again. don't ask me why or how, but i speak from experience

Hi ive got a citroen dispatch van 1.6 hdi 07 plateive had upto date first and second syncros done the a new gear box with linkages the all the syncros with gears and a new clutch but it has done it again...


you surprise me,these vehicles are bullet proof under normal circumstances and yes the syncros can wear out like any make of vehicle ,but this old grandad who passed his test in a viva with no syncro on first gear ,and passed his hgv on a vehicle with no syncros at all was taught to drive in a different era and rule one was neutral and handbrake on when stopped ,not holding it on a hill by slipping the clutch ,secondly to not put a vehicle in first gear whilst moving ,well it wouldnt go anyway ,double the clutch between gears so as to reduce the wear on the syncros and gears .not to ride the clutch between changing gears and also change down using double the clutch to save the brakes and stop vehicle slipping or skidding on a wet road ,not fly up to a roundabout ,slam on brakes force it into first gear at 30 mph then try to imitate evil kenival by going around on two wheels .This sort of driving will only damage the gearbox like syncros and clutches not lasting very long .

Your transmission apparently is not downshifting properly. From your description, it sounds as though it is in 2nd or 3rd gear, which is why it is slow to accelerate. When you shift into 1st, it is starting off in 1st gear as it should. You probably should have a transmission shop check it out. Check engine light on?

With ALL due respect, I speak from a 30 year Career of AUTO & Heavy Truck Experence of Fleet Management and Personal Customer Auto Care, and by NO means do I mean any Disrespect to you here.
As Long as is Does Not grind while UP SHIFTING you R fine , DOWNSHIFTING into 1st Gear BEFORE 20 mph is a Disaster Waiting to Happen EXAMPLE> Just BECAUSE a car CAN run at 120mph does not Mean One SHOULD do it. If it downshifted to 1st gear before 20 mph with OTHER Clutch that was due to WEAR, there MAY be a bit of AIR in the Release bearing or Slave cylinder, That needs to be BLED OUT, DOWNSHIFTING IS NOT A recommended Practice Unless its an EMERGENCY STOP condition, as It Causes Premature Wear on Clutch Disc. I Know this MAY seem UNTRUE as you may have done it for years But IN FACT A Clutch is MADE to Simply Get From LOWER GEAR TO HIGHER GEAR, but if you Downshift ALL of the time you WILL Subject the Clutch to TWICE the WEAR you Should THUS WEARING it OUT TWICE AS FAST $ thats $$$$. A good number of shops wont Advise you this Far as it Would REDUCE THERE Profit. I Hope I Have shed some Light on this delima, And Think of the MONEY you Can SAVE on TWICE the Longevity with 1 Clutch Job. GO WITH THE CHEAP FIX FIRST CHANGE THE INPUT , OUTPUT SOLENOID AT ONLY $30 A PIECE AT YOU LOCAL AUTOPART IF IT DOESNT WORK CHANGE THE SOLENOID PACK , AT $ 125 AT YOUR LOCAL AUTIPART
LAST FIX IS THE COMPUTER LOCATED UNDER THE SPLASH GUARD AT THE DRIVER FRONT WEEL
YOU CAN GET IT REBUILD FOR $150 BUCKS
