I have a 19996 dodge ram .whent to the snow the other day and the frot axle would not lock in and no 4 wheel light on the dash. any one know what could of happened was working right be for whet to the snow.

It has a vacume actuator,check vacum line,with switch on or shifter in 4x4,depending on which one it has,you shuld be getting a vacum to the actuator on top of the front axle,if not the plastic line is broke somewhere,engine might miss a little,if you have vacume the acuator might be bad,I will bet its in the plastic line

I have a 1998 explorer and the 4wheel drive will switch on like it should and the lights do not blink or anything but I can tell the rear end doea lock in low but never any power to front axle in any...

Rear wheels locking up when brakes applied. just changed shoes,axle seals,repacked bearings. also smells hot like something burning or burnt. the vehicle is a 1999 dodge ram 2500 4x4 5.9l gas with hd axles

loosen the brake shoes to solve the problem, the hand brake should lock at 4 clicks and no less

When i put into 4 wheel drive high,it chugs and fights with me when i turn replaced u joints and tierods under truck

they all do that when you are on a dry cement surface. The truck is designed for sloppy mud or snow, and 4H. 4Low is for straight slow pulling, or climbing. Use 4 H and don't turn too much on dry surfaces. You won't notice it in the snow. Its like a locked axle.
