Question about 2000 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

2 Answers

We took our perfect running 2000 VW Jetta TDI to a local mechanic for a timing belt change, which we knew it was due for. Now, after the belt change, the car will suddenly quit running and acts like it has no power. It will usually start back up, but this happens intermittently and it doesn't make sense. No matter if you give it gas or not, it just stops. Any suggestions?

When I took my 2000 VW Jetta VR6 into the shop to get something fixed, I mentioned I wanted my timing belt replaced as well (It was due.), the mechanic said that they don't have a belt, and that the have a chain on them, and they should last the lifetime of the car.

Hope that info helps.

I at about 89K on my '04 Jetta TDI and had the same issue. I was due for my 90K service to I took it to the VW dealer. They replaced the power steering pump and belt tensioner. This is the second tensioner that I have replaced this year. Thought the first one went out just because. Now it seems that the power steering pump was the cause. With both fixed, I have no scream and rattle from the engine. You might want to have both checked/replaced on yours. I'll let you know if the noise comes back. Good luck.

You're in the TDI (diesel) solutions section so it uses glow plugs.
If it's a petrol engine 2.0L then it would be accessible above and below intake manifold using a swivel spark plug deep socket.

VW JETTA 2000 V-6 , CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON , AIR FILTER WAS DIRTY, CLEANED , RUNNING FINE

Change and prefill fuel filter, add fuel treatment and one gallon of kerosene. Still left is the possibility of a new lift pump with screen access under rear seat. Wiping out the empty tank with a clean cloth and some solvent may be a good idea also. Timing belt replacement is due around 100K miles. EGR valve sometimes has excessive soot buildup and can be lightly cleaned with a non flammable solvent too.

Valve job for 2000 VW Jetta GL w/105,000 miles

is he sure it isn't the rings are worn also?  If so don't waste money on a valve job, when you really need a rebuilt motor.  Had you changed the oil more you wouldn't need this repair at this time.  Good uck as his price is decent.  Ask him the price for a long block?

Cost to replace clutch in 2000 VW Jetta

from what is was told locally is that it would be around $800 - $1000 and can take just around a full day to do. it is not a quick job, so labor costs can be high and the price of parts play a big factor in it just because it is a vw.
