Question about Land Rover Range Rover Sport

3 Answers

My Range Rover Sport 2006 front windows will not roll down. They were working before and I can roll the back ones down but not the front ones. This is on both sides the passenger stopped working also. The master which is on the drivers side stopped working the driver and passenger windows but you can still control the back windows.

No that one does not either which is a little strange that both would go out at the exact same time. What else could it be? Could it possibly be a fuse?

  • mike_mend609 Jan 31, 2010

Both sides are out. So I dont think it can just be the master switch because if that was the case I would be able to roll down the passenger side window with the passenger side switch right? What else could it be?

How much is the part? Is it something I can do myself

  • mike_mend609 Jan 31, 2010

Someone told me that If i take the battery cables and touch them together for 2 mins that it will do a hard reset on the system and that it may fix the issue. If I do that will that mess anything up with the electronics or will I have to do something to get everything working back once I connect the battery back up to it?

  • mike_mend609 Jan 31, 2010

What would the part be called?

  • mike_mend609 Feb 01, 2010

I checked the one which is #7 for the front window and that was ok but I have not checked all the others. Which others should I check?

  • mike_mend609 Feb 01, 2010

Thank you very much for your help. So the part I need to ask them for is the (Master Switch)? Also I read online that taking the door paneling off and assembling back is very difficult and only someone with exp in dealing with Range Rovers should do it. Is this true?

Thanks alot really appreciate your help.

One more questions. My DVD player in the back stopped working also. This happend before the switch went out the other day. I am thinking its the player itself because no lights come on when I try to play it. The only light that ever comes on is when I eject the 6-disk cassette. Do you think these 2 things could be tied together?

The master switch has complete dominion over the window controls on all doors, the master can even present no problems, and still be bad. When the button on the passengers side ,for example,is activated, voltage is sent to the master switch before returning to the passengers side window motor,.Replace the master to repair the problem.

You may have to call the dealer to find out the cost of the part, and if you are mechanically inclined, you can install it yourself, also, they will confirm my diagnoses, for you if they put the part on,believe me when I say the master is the problem.

If you disconnect the battery cables,at all,you could clear the computer of it`s memory, and have to take the vehicle to the dealer to be reflashed.

You would not be able to roll the window down on the passengers side with any button,if the master is bad.It is like ran in a series ,the master has to be working correctly,in other words,if the windows all worked correctly, with any button, and nothing was wrong, and you unplugged the master switch, the other windows would not work.

I doubt it,sense it has some power, you most likely are right, the player is most likely the fault.

if the fuse that is labled for it is okay the only other thing you can do is see if there is power at the fuse with a test light and if so. the master switch is the most likely cause.

well no and yes. if you never have taken a door panel off i would not attempt it because you will break stuff. but any local mechanic should have no issue's. but a detailed task for the average joe. hope that help and thank for using fixya. please let me know if you have any more questions.

no... but anything is possible with electrical. now it lighting up with the eject means there is power getting to it but it still maybe missing it's switched power. see it has two power leads. one constant for memeory and ejecting and one that is on when the car is on and off with the car off. to allow it to come on. so that switch power maybe missing but you won't know till it is removed and the wire is tested.

The master switch gets alot of abuse. the most probable is replacing the master switch. if you can get into each door and isolate the motor and apply power to make them go up and down. if they do, replace the switch. does the passenger window roll up and down with its own switch?

check both doors to make sure that both motors work. pull the switch and make sure there are no loose wires in the connector going into the switch. if all is good, replace the master switch.

Front power windows work intermittently, fuses are good and has a new main control switch.

Has the window motor been replaced? This is a classic symptom of defective window motor. Next time this happens hit the door panel, if the window starts working again that confirms the problem is the motor. This is not fool proof but in most cases the motor will restart, hit the panel down low a few times.

WELL IF YOU REPLACED MAIN WINDOW SWITCH MORE LIKELY THE OTHER WINDOWS SWITCHES COULD BE BAD CAUSING PROBLEMS.

06 range rover sport's steering shake when apply light break at speed 55 or above. Is it the break disk that gone bad?

It's either the brake rotor that is warped, or the tires are getting out of round and are not rolling evenly when the brakes are applied. Good luck on this repair.
