Have a 91 Ford Explorer. Front headlights having issues. Good bulbs I believe. Sometimes when switching between high and low beams on the column, lights would go oput for a moment then back on....

Sounds like it has possibly got a defective multifunction switch, which is part of the turnsignal lever/high beam lever switch. Aside from physically diagnosing the circuit I would say replacing the multifunction switch may take care of your problem.

Hope this helps

When I turn on my highbeams, the lowbeams shut off. Is this normal?

Yes, the low beams will shut off if you turn on high beam. Not sure which way yours work but if you push the lever for high beam, pull the lever back and all lights will come on or vise versa. You would think all the lights would turn on when going into high beam.

Low beams don't work; High beams fine. Not the

the high beam switch is at fault
A new one is needed
The directional lever you pull up on to switch to high and low connects to a rod which is going to the high beam switch at the mid section of the steering coluum. It is a headache to change for your on your head replacing this part

hiya, it sounds like a problem with either the stalk for the lights high beam or the relay isnt latching properly. id start with the relay as some relays on cars are interchangable. swap one over for another that is the same then try it. if this doesnt work try a new stalk. hope i helped :0)

My 87 k5 blazer headlights don't turn on when the car is started and running any more... all 4 headlights turn on fine when I pull the lever all the way out for high beams

The vehicle should not have to be running for head lights to burn.If high beams work, then the low beam head lights could be burned out, even though they light up with high beams. The dimmer switch, can be the problem if the head lights only work on high beam.

Sounds like the plastic tab that your High/low beam lever (on the steering column) switches has slipped out or broken and was displaced by the column movement. The lever assembly will have to be pulled, inspected, and (probably) replaced.

Considering all you have done, that is the only thing left (except a broken or shorted wire that connects to the suspect lever assembly - but unlikely).
Let us know what you find... please! -Jim

Low beam ok, spotties ok , high beam not working

It sounds like you have a contact problem in the column switch or the high beam relay.

Lights go off when i turn on the high beam

Pull your lever back if the high beams work that way you need a new high/low beam switch, if they do not you need to replace headlight bulbs.

The headlights are stuck on high beam.

pull on the signal lever toward you (ceter position). the signal lever controls the head lights either high beam or low beam. if you pull on the signal lever toward you again, you will have high beam temporarily. and if you push the signal lever towards the front, you will have the high beam locked.
