Question about 2000 Ford Taurus

I can't get the rotor off the 2000 ford Taurus. After you remove the caliper there is some sort of carriage remaining...

The carraige is called a saddle for the caliper. There are two bolts holding it on. One at the top and bottom. They are tight and sealed with Locktite sealer so a boxed end wrench and a hammer will be needed to tap loose. 15mm should be the size of the wrench you will need

REPAIR TO DISC BRAKES


there are two caliper bolts holding caliper to the caliper bracket, remove those first. then you must twist the caliper piston in a clockwise rotation and push in on the piston to get it to return to it's fully released position. then you can remove the caliper bracket if you are replacing or machining thr brake rotor. install in reverse order. make sure you lubricate the caliper pins in the bracket before reinstalling.

Replacement of front wheel bearings


taurus has a hub bearing in front it will come as hub and bearing if you look behind brake caliper and around axle you will see three bolts one on top and one each side remove axle nut just push in axle some may have to hit center to free" you will see groove in axle hit there".remove caliper let hang donot remove brake line and rotor remove the three bolts and hit from top to bottom of hub it will pop out

How do I remove and replace the front rotors on my 2004 V6 Ford Taurus


You must remove the brake caliper first then there should be a nut with cotter pin that holds it to the shaft some have a cotter pin some do not, but there should be a nut holding it on, remove nut slide rotor off, pack new bearings with grease then slide new rotor on, install nut and brake caliper, you may need to press caliper piston back in if it is too tight on the new rotor, use a c clamp to press piston back in.

I'm trying to change the ball joints on a 2000 taurus and am tryting to find out if i will need to remove the brake rotors and CV shaft to get the old one out and press the new one in?


You will need to remove the rotor and brake caliper and bracket. Then remove the axle nut and use a jaw puller or air chisel to push the axle shaft out the back of the hub bearing as you tilt the knuckle away from the car after you have seperated the strut from the knuckle. Then disconnect the lower ball joint and use a press to install and replace the joint.

But why do you need a diagram?

Pull the wheels.
Remove 2 bolts holding caliper (12 mm) I think
Remove the 2 bolts holding caliper mount (15mm) I think
Lightly tap the center of the rotor between the lugs and it will pop rite off. The reassemble in reverse.

Make sure to spray off all of the cosmoline they put on the rotor for shipping with brakekleen and lube they caliper slides with some sort of non-petroleum based lube like sili-glide.

How to change front brake rotor on 2000 ford taurus wagon cause front wheel shake when brake apply


Remove both caliper mounting bolts should be 12 or 13 mm bolts. Next remove both caliper mounting bracket bolts 15mm. Rotor should then pull off. If not use large hammer and hit the face off the rotor hub between the wheel studs until it comes loose. Make sure the face of the wheel hub is free of rust between the wheel studs and use high temp anti seize around the center circle of the wheel studs.

I can't seem to get off the front rotors of my 2000 Ford Taurus V6 3.0 DOHC 24v. I banged and banged away from every angle but no movement what-so-ever. Are the rotors held on by wheel nut?; I can't tell....


No there is a screw that has to be broken loose with a spring hammer, you also have to remove the caliper bolts 2 of them. and remove the holders so the rotor will come off.

1999 Taurus/Sable Section 06-03: Brakes, Front Disc 1999 Taurus/Sable Workshop Manual REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION Procedure revision date: 06/25/1998 Disc Removal
  1. Raise vehicle on hoist.
  1. Remove wheel and tire assembly. Be careful to avoid damage or interference with caliper bleeder screw fitting and front disc brake rotor shield (2K004).
  1. ani_caut.gif CAUTION: Handle front disc brake rotor (1125) and disc brake caliper (2B120) assembly in such a way as to prevent deformation of front disc brake rotor , and nicking, scratching or contamination of brake linings/rotor surfaces.
    NOTE: To prevent damage, do not allow disc brake caliper to hang by the front brake hose (2078) .


    Remove caliper anchor plate bolts and discard. Position disc brake caliper out of the way. Prevent separation of caliper housing from anchor bracket because contamination of guide pin journals can occur.
  1. NOTE: If excessive force must be used during front disc brake rotor removal, the front disc brake rotor should be checked for runout prior to installation.


    If additional force is required to remove front disc brake rotor , apply Rust Penetrant and Inhibitor F2AZ-19A501-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESR-M99C56-A on front and rear rotor/hub mating surfaces. First, strike front disc brake rotor between lug bolts (1107) with a plastic hammer. If this does not work, attach 2-3 Jaw Puller 205-D027 (D80L-1013-A) or equivalent and remove front disc brake rotor . Remove front disc brake rotor from wheel hub (1104) assembly by pulling it off the lug bolts.
Installation
  1. If original front disc brake rotor is being installed, make sure rotor braking and mounting surfaces are clean.
  1. ani_caut.gif CAUTION: Failure to clean rust and foreign material from rotor and hub mounting faces when installing new or old front disc brake rotors will result in high rotor runout, which will speed up the development of brake roughness shudder vibration.
    Apply a small amount of Silicone Brake Caliper Grease and Dielectric Compound D7AZ-19A331-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE-M1C171-A to pilot diameter of front disc brake rotor.
  1. Install front disc brake rotor on wheel hub assembly.
  1. Install disc brake caliper and new caliper anchor bracket bolts on front disc brake rotor . Tighten caliper anchor bracket bolts to 88-118 Nm (65-87 lb-ft).
  1. ani_caut.gif CAUTION: Failure to tighten lug nuts (1012) in a star pattern may result in high rotor runout, which will speed up the development of brake roughness, shudder and vibration.
    Install wheel and tire assembly on vehicle. Tighten lug nuts to 115-142 Nm (85-104 lb-ft) using Rotunda Accutorq® Lug Nut Socket 164-R0303 or equivalent on a 1/2 inch air impact wrench, or use a torque wrench.
  1. Lower vehicle.
  1. Pump brake pedal prior to moving vehicle to position brake linings.
  1. Road test vehicle.

How to-replace brake pads


You have two bolts on the back side of the caliper. Break them loose and unscrew them. Wiggle the caliper off and hang them up out of the way. Fasten the caliper with wire or string to the strut spring coil.

To remove the rotor, remove the cottor pin or wire clip that is folded over in the middle of the rotor. Unbolt the nut and pull it off. You will need a new set of wheel bearings and the seal that goes on the back side of the rotor. Also, you'll need to remove two other bolts that are on the back side of the dust shield.

These bolts are sometimes hard to break loose because of how long they have been on and heat and cool factor to them. Your best bet to get them to come off is to use a breaker bar or a rachet and attaching a cresent wrench to the end of the rachet.
