Replacing a Power steering pump

There is on one generic Cadillac video on this. It is a very old model.

Has anyone checked the front suspension to see if something is binding up ? Is it difficult to turn with the front wheels off the ground ?

Then I would suggest a repair shop

It just requires basic sockets & wrenches

More metric than decimal,but you need both to
work on any vehicle

We have no instructions,use the site as you do

G.M. p/s pumps have been known to break the shaft the pulley is on and is instant like that.Most likely needs pump

I would try a new belt first. If the belt it is old it could be slick and slipping or loose which would cause problems with the steering pump..

Rather difficult. Involves disconnecting the tie rod ends. Steering linkage from steering wheel. Disconnecting the power steering pump lines and unbolting the rack and pinion from the body. Not a lot of room to get at stuff.

You probably need to tighten the belt that runs the power stearing pump,or replace the belt if ther is no adjustment left.

you need to have a pulley puller to get the pulley off if you don't have one most auto zone part stores have a loan a tool program and they can help you with that on most powersteering pumps the high pressure line will be a fitting or bolt on and the return line is usually just a squeeze clamp hope this helps good luck

probably the rack is restricted or valve stuck in rack and pinnion steer .belt alignment also
