The tempreture sensor on my 98 passat was tempremental or just dead and cost £6 from the main dealer to replace, it's one of 2 units together on the front rear just above but against the firewall on a little holder in front of the battery almost.

My temperature gauge in my passat 2004 sometimes works but most of the time it doesn't what could be the problem, does anyone know where it is In the engine ? Thanks

Temperature sensor failure or loose wiring at temperature sensor, temp sensor is located near water pump at upper radiator hose housing.

Heating problem

I doubt it.
The sensor is for the computer and the temp gauge on the dash.
If the heater hoses are getting hot, and the radiator is full of coolant, you may have a blend door problem.
The blend doors direct air thru the heater core and the vents.

2004 vw passat check engine light .

This car has 2 separate temp sensors, 1 for the computer and 1for the gauge, you need to be sure the engine is not overheating first, but most likely it's a bad coolant temp sensor causing a false reading..

MY TEMP GAUGE ON 2005 TDI 130 PASSAT IS RISING NEARER 100oC WHEN CRUISING AT HIGHER SPEEDS, IT COMES BACK DOWN TO 90 WHEN SPEED REDUCED, COOLANT LEVELS FINE AND WATER LEVELS OK, ANY IDEAS PLEASE?

100 degrees is the normal operating temperature for the motor. If it goes higher than that, the thermostate needs to be replaced. The temperature will be higher on the highway because the engine is producing more heat energy due to the higher load on the motor. Diesels idle cooler and the engine will cool down at idle or lower speeds. That is why it is best not to idle your car for long periods of time because this will cause deposits in the engine and glaze the cylinders. The engine is working normal from what you described and there is no reason to worry. I hope this helped.

Have a Passat 2002 diesel 130, The temp gauge has stopped reaching normal position, and only moves to about a quarter way up. Have changed the stat and checked the pump-all OK, and found no difference. The...

Actually, if the temperature gauge is at the 25% vs. 50% that means the engine is running cool. That's good for the engine to run cooler rather than hotter.

However, there could be a restriction in the cooling system causing the heater not to get as hot as toast.

Good luck on flushing and repairing this anomaly in the cooling system.

My temp gauge is not going and the fans are coming VW golf 2004

Hi, the fans are controlled from the engine ECU. The ECU recieves a signal fron the temperature sender unit which will then switch on the fans. The sender unit also controls the temperature gauge. Have a look at the fuses before you replace the temp sender unit as it might be a blown fuse. Most of the circuits are intergrated and running through different fuses. I hope this helps.

93 jeep wrangler 6 cyl. my temp gauge never shows full temp. only goes to about 130 degrees. I have a 195 oem thermostat but still gauge does not climb above 130,...bad gauge, wiring???

Assuming the t-stat is good, I'd look at the wiring next. Make sure the connector is clipped onto the water temp sensor/back of the gauge and that the wiring is not chaffed, etc. If that all looks good, replace the coolant temp sensor...they're $20 or so. If it still does it, the gauge is bad.
