Question about 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

My 1995 jeep grand cherokee has been sitting for two months since my last hunting trip in the mountains where it ran fine. I just tried to start it and it wont start without gas pedal assistance. It runs fine as long as I rev it a bit,but when I let off the pedal it immediately dies. Will not idle.

Idle air control may be a bit clogged...remove it and spray carb cleaner into the port on the throttle body. Don't turn the valve on the end though or it may not seat correctly. Also check the air filter, If you drive in places like where I do when hunting, it may be caked with mud. Does it do the same thing after you run it to operating temp?

Your Jeep has what's known as the delayed start, no check engine light problem. The Jeep will not start until the check engine light comes on, on the dashboard. Next time it cranks but will not start, look at the dashboard to see if the check engine light is illuminated. If it's not lit up, then your Jeep does have that problem and your Jeep ecu is in need of repair or replacement. There are components inside the ecu that are going bad and will continue to get worse, eventually leading to a permanent no start condition. There are ecu repair services and replacement ecus on ebay.

I have a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee that keeps tripping the auto shutoff fuse....what could be causing this?

I had the same problem with my Grand Cherokee. In my case there was a lose/worn wire that ran to the altanator, was shorting out.I replaced it and haven't had a problem since..so you might want to see if you have a short somewere.
When it happed on my jeep it just went DEAD,just like someone turned the key off, only diffrence was the steering didnt lock up...I started at the battery and worked back from there, and lucked out and found the problem early.I hope this helps and you find a easy fix,but you should with the chargeing system, only if for no other reason all have to do is pop the hood and look for a lose, frayed or melted wire.

Ran a 300 mile trip up to Pennsylvania mountains this weekend. 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee ran fine. I did notice though that while driving with ac on I got a blast of hot air. Temp gauge was at 200 to 210 no...

Doesn't sound as though you have overheating issues.
With a 196 thermostat, a vehicle is designed to run at 200 to 210,and you were putting it under a load on your trip.
I don't know why you would think about changing anything, unless you were doing some trouble shooting, and a test you were performing, indicated a failed component.
I would change the thermostat, as preventative maintainance every five years, and watch for the fans to be working after a trip of five miles or so.
Your A/C may have been switched off, by the various computer systems, to prevent overheating, or it may be starting to have it's own issues.

And, in a curious way, a user in this forum could not find the accessory use the idea of keeping a folding table in place of "cover".

Good luck.
