The trac shuts off when theres a check engine light or a abs light on, most likely theres a bad abs wheel sensor but you will have to have the abs computer scaned to find out which one it is. hope this helps.

Why does my 2005 pontiac grand prix say service variable effort steerin, traction control off, and service abs?

jack up the four points of the vehicle one at a time shake the tire up to down and left to right, you have bad hub assemblies which tells you your ABS IS BAD take it from there and see what lights disappear, keep me posted and we will go from there.

What is causing My ABS/Traction control light to come on, On my 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix..the dash lights on comes on when I,am breaking but not all the time..

There can be several causes. ABS works by sensing the rotation of each wheel. There are videos on youtube that can help. A free diagnostic scan at some auto parts stores can help.
Here is a link to a video on youtube that might be of help. Search youtube for others.

TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT STAYS ON

Is the ABS light on too? These are inextricably linked systems, so you might want to run a diagnostic computer on the vehicle to pull up any fault codes, as one system can affect the other, and faults with the traction control aren't always with the traction control circuit.

My traction control botton wont work on my 2004 grand prix is this a diy problem?

one question is your abs or brake light on. you might have a wheel abs hub going out and not reading that will prevent traction control to work

Sounds like you have a bad wheel speed sensor. You need to have it scanned. Since it's been sitting, it might just be a bad connection to one of the speed sensors.

Abs and traction control lights coming on

Its the abs sensor, if you encounter an ice patch or snow you won't even be able to stop because the pedal will will push back and make the rip grind noise. If you pull the ABS fuse out, you won't have ABS but you can stop and you won't have the grind noise and back pressure for now. Its safer to not have ABS when the sensor is faulty.
