No, there is no such thing as a clutch switch, but , just because the clutch is down doesn't mean the transmission is hurt. They are 2 separate pieces. If the car looks like it has been abused in general, you should probably leave it where it is, and just get a tranny from an auto wrecker. If you're getting it cheap, go for it. There is lots of other stuff on it you will either use or be able to sell.

My 2001 Subaru Forester is about to undergo it's 3rd clutch transplant. First at 60,000kms, second at 130,000kms. We now have 170,000kms and we appear to be going down the same road. Smell of burning...

On your next clutch replacement make sure you take the flywheel off and get it machined flat, install a new pressure plate and friction disk and replace the throwout bearing also...Don't be cheap and try to get by with just a friction disk...do it right and it will work for a long time. and take your foot off the clutch peddle when driving!

2002 ford escort zx2 tranny slipping from Andrew

Yes. Having owned a trans repair shop, I will tell you, never change fluid on a slipping trans or one that the fluid is very dark and stinks. Why? It will slip even more, to the point that you can't use it.

The Trans is burnt inside and has to be rebuilt or replaced with a remanufactured one. $1600.00 or more

I will be kind here, which is hard for me being a car guy.
Why did you buy a vehicle at an auction?

You buy cheap, you got nothing. I would expect those kind of problems, when deciding on a purchase such as you made and leave room in the puchase price to cover spending at least two weeks going thru the entire vehicle before putting it on the road.

Replaced clutch but pedal will not move down at all now on 98 chevy 1/2 ton 2wd

Sounds like the release bearing is in backwards! No check valve. If the peddle was pushed, it would pop the slave cylinder piston. 2/ The clutch disc could be in backwards too! Either way, you will need to pull the tranny! Sorry! Frankster016

2001 Dodge Stratus Transmission Problem

COULD BE LOSS OF ALL TRASMISSION FLUID, BROKEN HOSE, BLOWN PUMP,BURNT TRANSMISSION RINGS( HOW DID THE TRANNY OIL SMELL?) BURNT TRANNY FLUID OR A COMBINATION OF ANY OF THE ABOVE. IF IT JUST QUIT, YOU PROBABLY HAVE A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT WILL REQUIRE A REBUILD OR A SALVAGE TRANSMISSION FROM A LOCAL WRECKING YARD. THE LATTER BEING THE CHEAPEST AND AT TIMES THE BETTER DEAL ALL AROUND, TIME WISE AND MONEY. VERSUS A REBUILD THAT REQUIRES NEW PARTS, BANDS, PUMP, SEALS AND ON AND ON PLUS HOURS OF LABOR TO FIX EQUALS ONE BIG BIG BILL!BEING A 2001 A TRANNY FROM A WRECKING YARD ISN'T GOING TO HAVE THAT MANY MILES ON IT EITHER SO YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO FIND SOME PRETTY DECENT ONES. THAT'S THE ROUTE I'D GO, BUT YOU'RE FREE TO CHOOSE EITHER CHOICE. I DON'T ENDORSE OR CONDEMN EITHER ONE, JUST POINT OUT THE GOOG AND THE WEAK IN EACH FOR YOU TO DECIDE! GOOD LUCK!
