Question about 2005 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

3 Answers

My 2005 c240 Mercedes check engine light comes on as well as the car hesitates to go sometimes and blows a big puff of white smoke out of the exhaust when I start it up as well as driving. The oil is also brown and has bits of particles in it. What do you think that could be?

These particles can be water, looks like the headgasket is gone, if it is the Compressor type, more likely you need to get diagnostics but my bet would be headgasket.

Have your mechanic check the car for a leaking head gasket; in the early stages white smoke - coolant being burned - will show up; you would not see any leaks, as the leak would be INTERNAL; driving with a defective headgasket will for sure cause more severe damage to the engine!

Blowing white smoke out of exhaust pipe

White smoke is usually a sign for a bad head gasket. How much white smoke is coming out? Also, are you losing coolant and can't find a drip under the engine?

Potiac fire bird starts hard.

Sorry but white smoke is a sign of water getting into 1 or more cylinders.I would pull the oil dipstick and see if it looks like a creamy color. If it does then you may have a blown head gasket or a crack in the engine block somewhere.

Mazda 6 1.8 ts 05 constant blue white smoke out of exhaust

It probably has some internal engine damage. If you pull the spark plugs one or more will probably be oil fouled.
You may want to have a compression test done and see if you can find the source of the oil - may be a head gasket.

My 2005 C240 has ticking sound in motor, engine light has been coming on, spewing white smoke, & chew up gas - just under 158,000 miles - time for new motor?

:sewing machine" sounds are usually caused by low oil. It may be that you are using too light a viscosity oil. Try using a heavier oil. The white smoke is troublesome. This is usually cause by burning coolant! If in fact the smoke is blue you are burning oil,and this makes more sense. The valvce stem seals may be worn out. These squeegy oil from the valce stems to keep it out of the cylinder head. If they are worn the oil is allowed to enter the cylinder head and is burned, causing the oil level to drop, and results in the "ticking" noises. It also uses more gas becasue oil doesn't burn at the tempterature that gas does and slows the cumbustion rate requiring more gas to maintian RPM's.Hope this helps.

Large puffs of white smoke coming from the tail pipe. resulted in no 1 casket being badly bent, now needs a new engine, how could this happen to an engine such as this. year 2000 had only done 42,000ks...

Sounds like the engine overheated, and blew the head gasket. With the modern aluminum blocks & heads, loss of cooling power spells death for the engine....all in less than 10 minutes. (*Had it happen to a 1991 Pontiac Grand Am, with a newly rebuilt engine, less that 2000 miles on it.*)
